This is one of the tougher weeks for a sports fan. Early in the week it was just baseball. Sadly I’m not a fan of the home run hitting contest or the actual All Star game itself. I know it counts and all the other things that go along with it but I just can’t get through the entire game. What I did see, may have been the best tribute ever. Even though it was the 8th inning, once the bullpen door opened and Enter Sandman started playing, the greatest closer of all time Mariano Rivera entered the game. He had the entire field to himself as all the other players and coaches stayed in the dugout. He had a 1, 2, 3 inning and was the All – Star game Most Valuable Player (MVP). It was by far the highlight of the game by far.

More baseball. As the trading deadline nears which teams are going to make moves. A lot of talk locally here is where Matt Garza will end up. The Cubs would like to trade Garza before his next start. The Texas Rangers where the front-runner for a long time but today it’s being rumored the deal fell through. A lot of teams have been interested in Garza, so will see what kind of deal the Cubs can get. I guess my question is; why is it a trade deadline when you can actually make trades after the deadline? I guess you have to call it something but deadline sounds so final and then all of a sudden there are more trades. I’ve always wonder how these trades take shape. Sadly I doubt it’s nowhere near how my fantasy trades go. With the extra wildcard spot more teams are in the playoff race, so more teams are looking for players. This should make for an active trade market and we’ll see who ends up where and what they had to give up to get them.

The NHL schedule came out. It seems like the season just ended didn’t it? The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks open their season October 1st against the Washington Capitals. They also have an outdoor game featured on their schedule this season. March 1st in Soldier Field against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It’s another one of those weeks for me. After the All Star break they come out with another free preview of the MLB Extra Innings package. So it’s baseball, baseball, baseball for me again this week. Does it get any better than this?

Back in 1946, when I was eight years old, I finally started paying attention of professional sports. In the fall of that year, I started following the Chicago Bears via radio. (No TV as yet in those days.) With great interest and excitement, I listened to the radio broadcasts every Sunday afternoon. The Bears had a very good team and won game after game. Finally, they played the New York Giants for the title. I remember very little about that game with the exception of the score. I remember that the Bears had taken a 14-0 lead but the Giants made a comeback and tied the score at 14-14. Then, with Sid Luckman at the helm, the Bears took the lead via touchdown and added a field goal for insurance winning the championship 24-14. How easy is this, I thought to myself. It wasn’t because in 1947 , I became a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

I only remember bits and pieces of listening to those games, but one thing remains quite clear; the Cubs were a bad baseball team! Before I started paying attention to baseball, the Cubs had won the NL pennant in 1945 and played the Detroit Tigers in the world series. Naturally, with the 7th and deciding game in Chicago, the Cubs were smoked 9-3. Even in 1946, they were respectable, finishing in 3rd place. Not so in 1947! It didn’t take me long to discover that this team was horrible. I can still remember some of the players I rooted for. Bill Serena, Handsome Ransom Jackson, Roy Smalley, Wayne Terwilliger, Andy Pafko etc. My personal favorite was the slugging outfielder Bill “Swish” Nicholson. In those days, the radio announcers (Bert Wilson; his catch phrase was “We don’t care who wins as long as it’s the Cubs!”) did the road games via a simulation with ticker tape. I remember one day when I was ill (a frequent occurrence in my youth) and listening to the Cub-Dodgers game from Brooklyn. It was easy to hear the ticker tape spewing out the information. Bert Wilson started to get very tense and dramatic and I had the feeling that something important was about to happen. With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the 9th and a runner on 1st, my hero, Bill Nicholson strolled to the plate and hit a home run with the Cubs winning 3-1.

But good things like that happened very infrequently. In 1948, for example, both the Cubs and White Sox had dismal seasons and they both wound up in the cellar. The newly reformed Chicago Sun-Times (a merger of the tabloid Times and the Sun newspapers) flip-flopped the standings one summer day so it appeared that the Cubs and White Sox were on the top of the National and American leagues.

The memories weave through my mind like fog. Fast forward to the early 50’s. After years of being cellar dwellers, the Cubs surprised the NL when they brought up an outfielder/1st Baseman named Bob Speake. Speake set the NL on fire winning games with his bat and his glove. I remember listening to one road game on the radio. Score tied 2-2 in the 10th; Speake at bat. (“Speake hits a high towering drive to left field. It’s a home run!”) That one even surprised me. Listening to it on radio, I thought it was a routine fly ball. Of course the league quickly caught up to Speake when they discovered he couldn’t hit a high inside fast ball. The Cubs, who wound up the 1st half of the season in 2nd behind Brooklyn did their usual fade towards the end of the season. Speake was soon traded to the Giants and was out of baseball in a couple of years.

In my senior year of high school, 1955, I used to dash home and usually catch the last couple of innings of the Cub’s game. When I tuned into this one, there seemed to be more tension than usual. Sure enough, Sad Sam Jones had a no hitter going. With the Cubs leading 4-0 in the 9th, he walked the 1st three batters but, shockingly, struck out the next three to preserve the no hitter. Harry Creighton, who was usually half in the bag by the end of the game, interviewed Jones on the field after his no hitter. His first question?? “ How’s the family, Sam”! No joke that’s what he said.

In 1960, the Cubs acquired pitcher Don Cardwell in a trade. He made his Cubs debut in the second game of a double header on a Sunday. The Cubs, as usual, lost the 1st game. Cardwell pitched a great 2nd game and had a no hitter going into the 9th inning. Two outs and the batter hits a sinking line drive to left. With Jack Brickhouse yelling “Come on, Moose” Moryn, never regarded as a great fielder makes the catch by his shoe tops. Another no hitter! (And yet another bad team.)

I saw a lot of games at Wrigley in 1963. One I still remember quite well. Cubs vs. Giants; game tied in the 10th inning and the Giants have the bases loaded, one out. In comes Lindy McDaniel in relief; he picks Willy Mays off of 2nd base and then strikes out the batter to end the inning. The fans stand and applaud. McDaniel bats for himself leading off the 10th and hits a walk off homer to win the game!

There were some sad memories also. Ken Hubbs dying in a plane crash. Lou Brock traded to the Cardinals for sore armed pitchers, Ernie Broglio and Bobby Shantz. (both of the pitchers out of baseball in another year or so. (Whatever happened to Lou Brock??)

With things looking bleak at Wrigley, the Cubs pull a shocker and hire Durocher as manager. A famous quote from Durocher after he took over the team. “This is not an 8th place ball club.”. He was correct. They wound up in 10th place because of the addition of 2 expansion teams.

But Durocher turned it around in 1967. Beckert, Banks, Santo, Hundley, Williams, Kessinger, Williams, Hickman etc. In a game I attended at Wrigley Field before a packed house, the Cubs won 4-1. Lee Thomas, subbing for a injured Ernie Banks driving in the key runs. On Sunday, the Cubs won again and moved into 1st place! And the fans actually ran onto the field to celebrate.

But they didn’t win that year or the next. We all know what happened in 1969. A great team with a poor center fielder, Don Young. Despite that, the Cubs had an 8 ½ lead over the Mets in late August. Typically, they collapsed while the Mets played out of their minds winning 41 out of 50 to win the pennant by 8 games. Then the not many years removed from expansion Mets beat the favored Baltimore Orioles to win the world series in 5 games. Durocher stayed around for a couple more years, but that magic was never repeated.

We move to 1984. Cubs get Ric Sutcliffe in a trade and romp to a win in their division. (When they clinched the title, two businessmen who were on the road trip said, with actual tears in their eyes, “so this is what it’s like to win”. Quite correct. When the Cubs are winning and playing exciting ball, the food at Wrigley tastes better, the crowds are more alive and intense and even the sunshine is stronger. So the Cubs win the 1st two against the Padres. Just one more to advance to the world series against Detroit. One loss, the 2nd loss in extra innings when Garvey homers off of Lee Smith. In the deciding game, with the Cubs nursing a 3-0 lead, Leon Durham whiffs on a ground ball and the curse continues! (Rumors abound that Leon was snorting a bit of cocaine that day.)

Wild card teams get into the playoffs a couple of times but are quickly eliminated.

And do I have to go through the Bartman game of 2003 one more time? I can’t even think about it. But remember this; if the Cubs SS didn’t boot a double play ball that would have ended the 8th inning, the Cubs still would have been leading 3-1. Kerry Wood gets hammered in the deciding game at Wrigley and bleeping Florida beats the Yankees to win the world series.

The Cubs win back to back division titles in 2007-2008 and can’t even win one playoff game!

But currently it’s different. I have no more patience to watch the current mediocre product. I’m tired of being patient and time is running out. When I was younger, there was always hope and optimism for next season but no more. The Cubs have become a non-factor in Chicago sports. At least, for now.

Hey, how about those Blackhawks!!

After a week off to announce the Sports Time Radio All Stars, we’re back.

I’m a little disappointed that baseball hasn’t gotten more attention on the highlight shows. For whatever reason there seems to be a lot of NBA talk, even though Dwight Howard signed a week ago with the Houston Rockets. While I enjoy the NBA I don’t need to see more highlights from your summer league games than I do from an actual baseball that counts in the standings. I’ll take most of the blame for this as I don’t have the MLB network on my cable package. I guess if I want my baseball highlights I’ll have to breakdown and upgrade my cable package but like almost everyone else out their I’m not looking forward to spending the extra money.

Did you vote for the last spot on the All Star team? I always vote once and I cast my vote for Joaquin Benoit (Detroit Tigers) in the American League and Yasiel Puig (Los Angles Dodgers) in the National League. Out of the ten (10) guys that where on the ballot these where the two (2) players I wanted to see. Of course I didn’t get my wish as Steve Delabar (Toronto Blue Jays) & Freddie Freeman (Atlanta Braves) won the fan voting. The Toronto fans and the Atlanta fans teamed up to vote for each others players and I know there was some issue with this. Dan the Man pointed out on the show that the San Francisco Giants had a team they partnered with, but right now I’m drawing a blank on who that team was. It was a promotion to get you to vote for each others players. This isn’t a big an issue to me as it is to some experts; it’s the All Star game and you’re allowed to vote for whoever on the ballot you want to vote for.

Ilya Kovalchuk walked away from the NHL and a contract that would’ve paid him $77 million. Kovalchuk is from Russia and more or less just wanted to go home. He made $23 million on the contract before leaving and I’m guessing will play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) next season. A lot of people have called Kovalchuk out for doing this but I don’t see an issue with this. If Kovalchuk wanted to go home and play hockey he should be allowed to be. The New Jersey Devils don’t have to pay off the contract and I don’t believe it will count against their salary cap. While the Devils have to replace Kovalchuk I think they would rather replace him than deal with an unhappy player.

Believe it or not NFL training camps are getting ready to open. I thought I heard the New Orleans Saints open training camp first on July 18th. These aren’t your father’s NFL training camps. With the new collective bargaining agreement teams can still have doubles; two (2) practices in the same day, but their only allowed to wear pads for one (1) of these practices. While I’m sure these practices are very, very tough I’d like to know how they compare to the older training camps? “Are you ready for some Football”

If you’ve listened to Sports Time Radio you know that we’re not a huge fan of the way the major league baseball All Star teams are selected. So I tried to have us put together our own All Star team. Dan the Man, Mr. Fantasy, Schaumburg Stu and I all made list of our All Stars. Here’s how we went about it. Each person ranked the top 3 players at 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, Shortstop and Catcher. We ranked 9 outfielders, 6 starting pitchers and 4 relievers. A player got 10 points for a 1st place vote. 8 points for a 2nd place vote. 6 points for a 3rd place vote and then 5 points, 4 points, 3 points, 2 points, 1 point and a half of a point for positions 4th through 9th. Here how are voting came out. The player’s point total is in parenthesis. Others getting votes will be listed.

So the NHL season came to an end this week with the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup beating the Boston Bruins in Game 6, 3 – 2. It was one of the best comebacks I’ve ever seen in any type of sporting event. The Blackhawks scored two (2) goals very late in the 3rd period to win the game and the Stanley Cup. If you’re a regular listener to Sports Time Radio you know that Dan the Man and I both picked the Blackhawks to win the Stanley Cup at the start of the season. Maybe it was a little bit of a homer pick, but it worked in our favor. They had the parade in Chicago yesterday and there have been reports that over 2 million people attended. This of course was covered by the Chicago media from every angle. The question Dan the Man and I had last night was there was full coverage on the radio. So, my question to you would be, is this good radio?

We have two (2) fantasy baseball leagues that Mr. Fantasy, Dan the Man and I play against each other in. We did a regular snake draft style league and then for the first time we did an auction draft. Our leagues differ from most though. We have 20 teams in our leagues and the outfield is position specific. One of the players in our regular league sent out a message saying he was looking for a centerfielder. I just happen to have three (3) players who qualify as centerfielders, so I thought maybe we could make a trade. I sent him an e-mail and asked him to make me an offer. His reply was that he’s not good at making offers and in return wanted me to come up with a trade. I sent him a two (2) for two (2) trade offer which he turned down, so I countered with a regular one (1) for one (1) trade. He rejected this trade offer as well and I’m running out of ideas for trades.

The NBA had their draft this week as well and with the #1 pick, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Anthony Bennett a forward from UNLV. This was a bit of a surprise pick as most experts had the Cavaliers taking Kentucky center Nerlens Noel. There was also some late talk about Maryland center Alex Len. In the end the Cavaliers selected Bennett as both Noel and Len slide down in the 1st round. As with any draft you never really know what you’re getting at the start, but most experts have been calling this a weak draft. We should start to find out about these draft picks as summer league will be starting very soon.

We tried something for picking the baseball all-star teams with Sports Time Radio. I actually have it totaled up and I’ll be posting it for you very soon.

New Era Summer Styles

I ran over to New Era to find a pic of the All Star Hats that are supposed to be worn during the Home Run Derby to tweet to Big Jack. It’s Woven and 100% polyester. What really drew me to it was the colors. It reminded me of the old school Mets colors. I’m diggin’ this hat so much. I think I’m going to pick up a National League cap 7 5/8. It’s $35 but since I am an “insider,” it’s $28. One thing I know New Era makes the best caps and they are the only ones I will wear. As I was searching the site I came across several other styles out for the summer.

20130627-003530.jpg
The Hardwood Classics Camo were the first caps to grab my eye. They are woven with 70% wool & 30% cotton. The bill is in camouflage and the logo is a classic version. I like the classic logos but not a big fan of the camo only on the bill. Which leads us a to a great camo hat.

20130627-004303.jpg
This style is called YOTS. These hats make it difficult to chose between the All Star caps. I love classic logos. These are 70% wool and 30% polyurethane, woven. I really like the all camo but the black and white draws me. The Diamondbacks cap is just cool and how can you not like the Braves Old School logo.

20130627-005037.jpg
Youth two tone is woven, 20% wool, 80% polyester and is for sizes, 6 3/8 & 6 3/4. They are a cool for for the kids. If I had kids, I would definitely pick one up and hopefully to plant the seed of college.

20130627-005709.jpg
The MLB Splatted is woven, 30% polyester and 70% wool. I’m not super in love with this style. I do love the classic logos. The splatted bill looks great with some hats and not so great with other teams. I’m not saying I wouldn’t wear it, of course unless it was a White Sox cap. It has a low priority on my list but hey if say someone somewhere were to give one as a gift. I’d definitely wear it. Hey it’s worth a try.

20130627-010405.jpg
4th of July Stars & Stripes fitted hats are 100% polyester woven. I can only assume that these caps will be worn by all teams playing on the 4th of July. Many stadiums put on fantastic firework shows, so I can imagine it being a great day to go to a ball game.

If your wondering about New Era’s other styles, you’re going to have to go to their site. I only wear 59Fifty Fitted Cap, so I’m only going to talk about them. Hopefully the Dodgers get out of last place and Mr Fantasy buys me a new 59Fifty 75/8 fitted cap.

I’ve noticed that there are actually a lot of people drafting for fantasy football already. This is tough for me to do as the season doesn’t start for about three (3) months or so and a lot of things can happen between now and then. Going with the trend we had Sports Time Radio’s fantasy expert Mr. Fantasy rank his top 10 Quarterbacks and wide receivers on Friday nights show.
Here’s his list:

Quarterbacks
#1 Aaron Rodgers
#2 Drew Brees
#3 Peyton Manning
#4 Tom Brady
#5 Matt Ryan
#6 Matthew Stafford
#7 Cam Newton
#8 Colin Kaepernick
#9 Russell Wilson
#10 Robert Griffin III

Wide Receivers
#1 Calvin Johnson
#2 Brandon Marshall
#3 Andre Johnson
#4 Dez Bryant
#5 Julio Jones
#6 A. J. Green
#7 Larry Fitzgerald
#8 Demaryius Thomas
#9 Roddy White
#10 Vincent Jackson

So the NBA Finals came down to a 7th game. The Miami Heat won their 2nd consecutive title and LeBron James was named finals M.V.P. It was the outcome a lot of people predicted at the start of the season, but it wasn’t as easy as experts thought. Even though Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and James predicted championships and a lot of them I’m not sure this team will get them. You have to wonder if Bosh likes being the forgotten superstar. He was one of the top players in the NBA before signing with Miami. Would you consider him that now? The off-season is always fun as the question have already started for other teams besides the Heat. Will Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett be in Boston at the start of next season? Where will Dwight Howard end up playing next season? Then of course the draft is coming up; so who”s the #1 pick?

The NHL season is coming to a close as well. The Stanley Cup finals are down to the best 2 out of 3 games between the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks. The series went from great goaltending to an offensive explosion; so you wonder which series will get tonight in game 5. You would think the faster more offensive game would favor the Blackhawks, but the Bruins have found ways to win throughout the playoffs. The goaltenders become key down the stretch and you’d have to think the team with the best goalie will be hosting the Cup in the end.

Baseball is ready to step up and take center stage. How is your favorite team doing? How do you think they’ll do the rest of the season?

NBA vs. NHL

The NHL has only played one (1) Stanley Cup finals game. Game 2 is actually tonight; so I’m a little ahead of the game right now. The NBA Finals just played game 4. For what it’s worth the one Stanley Cup three overtime Chicago Blackhawks victory over the Boston Bruins has been more exciting than the NBA Finals four games. I understand I am way in the minority here but which of any of the NBA Finals games has come close to game one of the Stanley Cup finals. Now from here on out you never know which series will go which way but I’m saying right now it’s the NHL for me.

We had Jerry Hoover on Sunday night at halftime of the NBA Finals game to break down the game. I hadn’t seen a lot of the 1st half of the game, but he described the game so well it didn’t matter that I hadn’t been able to catch a lot of the game. The San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat are tied at 2 – 2 in the series right now. The Tony Parker injury is the key right now and without him I don’t think the Spurs can win this series. We discussed the series all week long with the big question being is this the Spurs last chance to win a title? LeBron James is far and away the best basketball player in the world and he has to show that he can carry his teammates to a title. Dwayne Wade showed up in game 4, but will Miami get anything else out of him this series. Unless Chris Bosh steps up and does something for Miami you have to look at him as a bust. Besides Parker being healthy the Spurs have to get something more out of Manu Ginobili. Game 5 is tomorrow; so will see which team can take a 3 games to 2 advantage.

Major League Baseball handed down it’s suspensions from the brawl between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ian Kennedy got 10 games; so really 2 starts. Eric Hinske got 5 games, but I’m wondering if they got this right. In the video he doesn’t seem to be throwing any punches, but does take a shot to the back of the head from Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig. Other players and coaches where giving 1 and 2 games suspensions and quite a few players were fined. Now the question is this over?

Mr. Fantasy and I have ventured into the field of daily fantasy baseball. I’ve actually managed to get ahead from my starting point, but to tell the truth I’m afraid to wager more than $1 or $2 on a game. Maybe as time goes on I’ll take more chances, but right now I’m still kind of learning the system. I was very surprised to find out how different it is than managing a weekly fantasy team; even are regular fantasy leagues where we change the line ups daily. These daily leagues are salary cap leagues; so you have to pick and choose where to spend your money. So far I’ve really enjoyed it, but like I mentioned I haven’t taken a big loss yet.

Life is a Fantasy

20130608-235614.jpg

It’s baseball season, so we obviously spend a lot of time talking about that on the show. Earlier in the week Mr. Fantasy and I made a trade in a money league we’re in together. We traded Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper for Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Patrick Corbin. My warning to any fantasy owner out there who has Corbin is trade him now. Mr. Fantasy and I have such bad, bad luck with pitchers that there is a chance Corbin won’t win another game this season. The really sad part about that is I’m not kidding. For whatever reason we just kill pitchers; hopefully Corbin will be our exception. Corbin is 9 – 0 in 12 starts this season. Harper has 12 home runs this season and is hitting .287, but is injured and is scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews next week to have his knee looked at. Hopefully this deal works out for us as we can use some good pitching.

Can you believe the Boston Bruins swept the Pittsburgh Penguins out of the Eastern Conference finals. Pittsburgh had been the best team in the NHL through the first few rounds of the playoff and Boston barely got by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, but here they are in the Stanley Cup finals waiting for the winner of the Chicago Blackhawks/Los Angles Kings series. The Blackhawks have a 3 games to 1 lead in the series and can close it out tonight at home. Tuukka Rask is the hot goaltender right now; so will see if he can win the Stanley Cup for the Bruins. Rask stopped all but two shots in the series against the Penguins; so will see if he can continue that impressive feat in the Cup finals. The Bruins might find out who their facing tonight.

Oh my! The Miami Heat lost game 1 of the NBA finals. And the world didn’t end. Well, it did if you’re a frequent viewer of ESPN like I am. Sadly it was all they talked about yesterday and it’s weird how they never want to admit that they got beat. There’s always an excuse for a Heat loss and this one was fatigue from the Indiana series. I thought maybe they lost because Chris Bosh was terrible shooting the basketball but I guess that was just me. Do you remember before Bosh signed with Miami and he was considered one of the top players in the NBA. I know he got his championship last season but I wonder if he regrets his decision to sign there. He has a chance to opt out of his contract if not after these playoffs then after next season and I think it would be smart if he took his talents out of South Beach. Miami has the extra day off before game two so they can get over their fatigue and I expect they’ll get a win in game two at home over the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are a veteran team and with the way Tony Parker has been playing he’ll have a lot to say about how this series plays out. I wonder how ESPN would react if the Spurs actually win this series.

As always there’s a lot of stuff to get into this week, but at Sports Time Radio we had a big announcement on Sunday. Dan the Man wasn’t sure if he would be available to make the show; so Mr. Fantasy stepped in. As it turned out, Dan the Man showed and we did a three person show. We got into some football talk and between 8:40 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Mr. Fantasy finally said he’d write the running quarterback blog. This has been a topic on the show since the end of the football season when Mr. Fantasy started talking about how much he dislikes this style of offense. You can go into the Sports Time Radio archives and listen to it; so now we have it and will see how long it takes us to get this blog.

While the San Antonio Spurs are at home waiting. The Miami Heat need one more win to close out the Indiana Pacers. Chris “Birdman” Andersen got himself suspended for game 6 because of the cheap shot he took in-game 5. Oddly if you look at the stats the Heat are a better offensive team without Andersen. Of course he’s not there to score and he brings those extra things a championship team needs. Miami has a chance to close out the series in Indiana tonight (Saturday). You have to wonder if the long lay off for the Spurs will hurt them. They are a veteran team and the rest might actually help them. Tony Parker has had a calf issue and the time off will do him good. Game 1 of the finals is June 6th; so we’re getting close to crowning a NBA champion.

In an odd NHL fact the four teams remaining in the playoffs the Chicago Blackhawks, the Boston Bruins, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Los Angels Kings are the last four Stanley Cup champions. Dan the Man and I both picked the Blackhawks to win the cup at the start of the year; so he and I still have a shot at being right. On a side note Mr. Fantasy picked the St. Louis Blues. The Blackhawks are coming off an exciting game 7 win over the Detroit Red Wings. The Kings are the defending Stanley Cup champions; so will see if they can get back to the finals. The Penguins have looked like the best team in the NHL through the playoffs. We’ll see if they can continue that against the Bruins. I think the NHL playoffs may be the most exciting of all the sports. What’s better than sudden death overtime?

I’ve actually mentioned this on the show a couple of times through the week, whether it was Wednesday or Friday; I think it’s worth mentioning again. If you had Dioner Navarro in your line up on May 29th you are the greatest fantasy baseball alive. Navarro went 3 for 3 with 6 RBI’s, he also scored 4 runs as well. I would be interested to know how many players in a daily fantasy league took a chance on Navarro; it would’ve paid off in a big, big way. I know later in that same baseball day Washington Nationals 3rd baseman Ryan Zimmerman also hit 3 homers in a game. I gave a special mention to Dioner Navarro because he’s a back up catcher on an under .500 team and he’s not an everyday player.
