I ran over to New Era to find a pic of the All Star Hats that are supposed to be worn during the Home Run Derby to tweet to Big Jack. It’s Woven and 100% polyester. What really drew me to it was the colors. It reminded me of the old school Mets colors. I’m diggin’ this hat so much. I think I’m going to pick up a National League cap 7 5/8. It’s $35 but since I am an “insider,” it’s $28. One thing I know New Era makes the best caps and they are the only ones I will wear. As I was searching the site I came across several other styles out for the summer.

The Hardwood Classics Camo were the first caps to grab my eye. They are woven with 70% wool & 30% cotton. The bill is in camouflage and the logo is a classic version. I like the classic logos but not a big fan of the camo only on the bill. Which leads us a to a great camo hat.

This style is called YOTS. These hats make it difficult to chose between the All Star caps. I love classic logos. These are 70% wool and 30% polyurethane, woven. I really like the all camo but the black and white draws me. The Diamondbacks cap is just cool and how can you not like the Braves Old School logo.

Youth two tone is woven, 20% wool, 80% polyester and is for sizes, 6 3/8 & 6 3/4. They are a cool for for the kids. If I had kids, I would definitely pick one up and hopefully to plant the seed of college.

The MLB Splatted is woven, 30% polyester and 70% wool. I’m not super in love with this style. I do love the classic logos. The splatted bill looks great with some hats and not so great with other teams. I’m not saying I wouldn’t wear it, of course unless it was a White Sox cap. It has a low priority on my list but hey if say someone somewhere were to give one as a gift. I’d definitely wear it. Hey it’s worth a try.

4th of July Stars & Stripes fitted hats are 100% polyester woven. I can only assume that these caps will be worn by all teams playing on the 4th of July. Many stadiums put on fantastic firework shows, so I can imagine it being a great day to go to a ball game.

If your wondering about New Era’s other styles, you’re going to have to go to their site. I only wear 59Fifty Fitted Cap, so I’m only going to talk about them. Hopefully the Dodgers get out of last place and Mr Fantasy buys me a new 59Fifty 75/8 fitted cap.

If you caught our last episode on BTR, I promised to blog about my Christmas sports presents. It was a pretty great day, present wise for me. I know, I know that’s not what it’s about but We are all about sports. Lets start with my mother-in-law. I was secretly hoping she’d get me another gnome of some Chicago team but even better a brand new stainless steel barbecue set which are not cheap by any means. The other Cubs set I own is more for display than cooking. I can’t wait to use them, what the hey, regardless of the weather this weekend in Chicago, I might have to fire up the grill. I was very excited to open up the box with my brand new Brandon Marshall T-shirt. Now I know it isn’t formal or really even business casual but I showed to her moms house on Christmas wearing this shirt with my New Era Fitted hat to match. Speaking of New Era, check out my blog about how much I love their fitted hats. My brother-in-law and I had a game of touch football against the youngsters and we probably would have won if he didn’t blow out his knee. We didn’t think it was that bad until he threw his cigar. I know what your thinking, but our last game on thanksgiving was won and he had his cigar the whole time we played. That morning I had another box to open and inside contained my brand new New Era 5950 San Francisco Giants 2012 World Series fitted cap. If you follow me on twitter you probably seen the pic before but now it’s officially on my dome. After tweeting a pic of me wearing it New Era favorited my tweet. Yes I am that cool! At least I think I am.
But nothing tops the gift I didn’t open that morning, my brand new weight set and adjustable bench. I found it on Craigslist a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately the seller lived within 10 mins from me. I have actually been watching Craigslist since the summer and I just couldn’t find what I was looking for, for a good price. I bought an adjustable bench with adjustable arms for the Olympic bar. The weight tree included the standard barbell set. He also threw in an E-Z Curl bar and the few barbells that attach to it, along with two individual curl bars. And the added bonus of just one 30lb dumbbell. That’s right ONE dumbbell. Who goes out and buys one dumbbell? That guy but its cool, ill just get the funny looks when I go to buy 1 dumbbell. Now I just need some heat in the garage.

Normally Big Jackand I talk about sports, so this may be a little off topic but still in the realm of sports. I do not like SnapBacks since I was a little kid playing little league. I wanted to wear the hat that Shawon Dunston or Rickey Henderson wore on the field. I am not too sure if they sold them when I was younger and I know SnapBacks have the advantage of being adjustable, so you don’t have to worry about shrinkage or or your head getting bigger. I didn’t care about that I wanted a fitted hat.

As far back as I can remember I have always loved wearing hats, so finding the right hat has always been a big deal. When I was in little league they gave you those lame Park District hats, so I convinced my parents to buy me the hat of the team I was on. It irritated coaches and other parents but I didn’t listen. I cannot say when but I was about 17 or so when I bought my first fitted hat and being a huge baseball fan, of course it was the Cubs, so I picked up and wore it for most of the season and tossed it because it shrank. It took a little while to find the right hat that fit my head and I landed on the New Era 5950. One of the first ones I bought that I really liked was this criss crossed logo had a Yankees and the Dodgers and of course my Cubs. The Yankees one for some reason or another shrunk over time along with the Cubs hat, but not the LA hat. It seemed that when I bought these hats. I was buying a new one every other year because of shrinkage and I do have a big head. And that got annoying plus the fact they only seemed to make MLB hats, so when it was time for football season, I was stuck buying the Reebok L/XL and the fitted hats just didn’t fit the same and with time took on an odd shape and shrunk. The 2011 NFL sideline caps looked so cool and I was excited when I had my very own, but of course that L/XL I told you about was just a little to tight on my huge head. Needless to say I was vey excited to see that New Era is the official sideline hat of the 2012 season but they had three different hats to choose. Too many choices! Eventually I’ll have them all. Even when I busted out my authentic Jordan, I was able to pick up a NBA New Era 5950 Chicago Bulls hat to match. Now I know I mention shrinkage, but the on-field caps protect against shrinkage. I’m not sure but I think they are using more of that technology in all their fitted hats. I purchase a Cubs 1984 logo hat 2 seasons ago and it still fits like a glove! I also have a SF Giants 2010 World Series fitted that still fits like new.

Did they pay to blog about them? No. I wish they did. On Air Mr Fantasy said a hats a hat to him but to me it’s more than a hat. It s apart of who I am, I love wearing fitted hats and I won’t stop until I’m gone. Since I’ve bought my first one the price has definitely has gone up but for the price You get great quality and for someone like myself who keeps them forever, the price is just right. Now all I need to do is learn how to clean them better.
