With a couple of games left in the regular season for major league baseball there is still 1 playoff spot that needs to be decided. The Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers are all playing for that 1 remaining playoff spot. We talked about how a tiebreaker would go on Fridays show if all 3 teams ended up with the same record. I got it really wrong on the air but I believe this is how a 3 way tie would work out. Tampa Bay would play at Cleveland; the winner gets a wild card spot and the loser would go to Texas to play the Rangers the next day with the winner of that game getting the second wild card spot. If these teams did end up tied either Tampa bay or Cleveland could end up playing 164 games this season. Of course this all goes away if Tampa Bay and Cleveland win today (Saturday) and Texas loses. The St. Louis cardinals clinched the National League Central last night (Friday) beating the Chicago Cubs 6 – 0. The National League wild card spots go to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds. The game looks like it will be played in Pittsburgh and will have Francisco Liriano starting for the Pirates and Mat Latos taking the mound for the Reds.

Bud Selig has announced that he will be retiring from his role as commissioner of baseball following next season. Now Selig has made this type of announcement before and was talked into staying by the owners. This time it looks like Selig will walk away but there is another season to go. Everyone has an opinion on who should be the one to take Selig’s place. I’m just like everyone else and I think the next commissioner of baseball should be Cal Ripken Jr. Ripken Jr. just kind of embodies the game of baseball to me. He was a Hall of Fame player who played every single day. Who’s your choice to replace Bud Selig?

Mariano Rivera played his last game in Yankee stadium this week. I enjoyed the way the Yankees came out and removed Rivera from the game. Andy Pettitte and Derek Jeter made the trip to the mound to take Rivera out of the game. It took a minute or two before Rivera broke down and started to cry while hugging Pettitte first and then Jeter. A point came up after this that Rivera would like to play centerfield. Now I’ve heard some reports rip Rivera and the Yankees for this and I don’t understand why. The Yankees aren’t in the playoff race and there playing the Houston Astros this weekend; who also aren’t in the playoff race. If he went out and played just 1 inning in centerfield would it tarnish his career. I don’t think so. Not only do I hope Joe Giradi and the Yankees let Rivera play centerfield, I hope he gets the opportunity to catch a fly ball.

I know it’s a lot of baseball this week, but it is playoff time. The NFL is in Week 4 and college football is in Week 5. Did you have the New York Giants at 0 – 3? Maybe you’re the person taking Mississippi to upset Alabama today. We’re previewing all your NFL games Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m Central, The Sports Time Radio Pregame Show. We will cover all your fantasy plays and even pick the winners of the games. Picking the winners doesn’t always work out for us but who gets them all right.

Two long time major league baseball players announced their retirement this week. Colorado Rockies 1st base man Todd Helton and New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte are planning to call it a career at the end of this season. Helton was a 1st round pick of the Rockies; 8th overall in 1995. He made his debut August 2nd 1997 and has only played for Colorado for his entire career. He has over 2500 hits and is a lifetime .316 hitter. Andy Pettitte was drafted by the Yankees in the 22nd round of the 1990 amateur draft. Pettitte made his debut for the Yankees April 29th 1995. Pettitte has won 5 world series championships with the Yankees and has a 19 – 11 post season record. Pettitte spent 3 years pitching for the Houston Astros (2004 – 2006) before returning to the Yankees. Pettitte has over 250 career wins as well. This brought up the question on Friday’s show, will Helton and Pettitte get into the Hall of Fame? I heard one baseball expert say he thinks Pettitte will get into the Hall of Fame but it will take 10 plus years for him to be voted in. On the other hand this expert didn’t see Helton making the Hall of Fame. Sadly I watch way to much sports on television and I can’t remember which baseball expert made these comments.

We started Friday’s show by talking about the situation that NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. has found himself in. As you know Truex originally qualified for the Sprint Cup Chase but was knocked out when he was penalized 50 points for teammate Clint Bowyer spinning out and attempting to fix the outcome of a race. Yesterday NAPA announced that they where leaving Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) and would take their sponsorship elsewhere. If your Truex Jr., are you wondering what you did? Truex didn’t spin. It was Bowyer and it cost Truex Jr. his spot in the Chase. From all reports Truex Jr. had nothing to do with Bowyer spinning and affecting the outcome of a race but it cost him 50 points. Now he’s losing his sponsor and might end up leaving MWR. Truex Jr. did say “I’d always hoped that I’d be at Michael Waltrip Racing for a long, long time,” adding “That really hasn’t changed. But it’s a lot more confusing at the moment.” I guess we’ll see if someone will sponsor Truex Jr. next season or if he ends up leaving MWR for another ride.

Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Blog Talk Radio Dan the Man, Mr. Fantasy and I are previewing the NFL games and offering as much fantasy advice as we can. The 2 hours goes very quickly and we try to get as much in as we can. Tomorrows show, Sports Time Radio’s Pregame Show, if you’d like to listen to us. On the show we almost pick who’s going to win the games. Here are last weeks results: Dan the Man was 10 – 5 while both Mr. Fantasy and I went 12 – 3. After 2 weeks of picks Dan the Man is 19 – 1, while Mr. Fantasy and I are both at 22 – 7 overall.

It looks like “The Bet” is going to be settled in the playoffs. If you’ve been listening to the show since the start of the baseball season then you know about “The Bet. ” Dan the Man picked the Los Angles Dodgers to win the World Series while Mr. Fantasy said they wouldn’t even be the 3rd best team in California. As the season went on, “The Bet” was amended from the best record to who goes the farthest in the playoffs. It’s a 2 team race now. The Dodgers clinched the Thursday night and it looks like Mr. Fantasy’s team is going to be the Oakland A’s. The A’s should wrap up the American League West shortly as the Texas Rangers have fallen out of the race and may not even get a wild card spot. What does the winner of “The Bet,” you ask? Well the loser has to buy the winner a brand new New Era 5950 fitted hat.

We haven’t spent a lot of time talking about it on the show but the NHL preseason has started, so hockey is just right around the corner. The regular season starts October 1st with these 3 games. The Toronto Maple Leafs vs. the Montreal Canadians; the Winnipeg Jets vs. the Edmonton Oilers and the defending Stanley Cup champions the Chicago Blackhawks vs. the Washington Capitals.

The Chase for the Sprint Cup starts Sunday in Joliet Illinois. On a side note the track isn’t to far from where Dan the Man lives but sadly he’s not going to the race. NASCAR added Jeff Gordon as the 13th driver to the Chase; there are normally only 12. Gordon was added because of some controversies between Joey Logano and David Gilliland. It seems as if Gilliland was going to give Logano a position on the race track that would’ve allowed Logano to qualify for the Chase; knocking Gordon out. There was also the issue earlier in the week with Michael Waltrip Racing (M.R.I.). Clint Bowyer (Dan the Man’s favorite driver) spun towards the end of the race with Ryan Newman leading. The caution flag came out and after pit stops Bowyer’s teammate Martin Truex Jr. was ahead of Newman and at the end of the race was one of the 12 drivers who made the Chase for the Sprint Cup. After the race NASCAR reviewed the radio communication between Bowyer and his pit crew and it was decided that Bowyer’s spin was intentional; so Truex would have a chance to get into the Chase. All three M. R. I. drivers (Bowyer, Truex and Brian Vickers) were penalized 50 points and put on probation. The penalty knocked Truex out of the Chase and gave Newman the last spot in the Chase. Gordon was also in the running for a spot in the Chase when all this stuff went on and after a review of the Logano/Gilliland situation Gordon was added as the 13th driver in the Chase. I think NASCAR handled the situation correctly and Gordon should’ve been allowed to compete for the championship. Once the Chase gets started a lot of these issues will go away and they’ll be back to racing.

The National League wild card race seems to be heating up and every expert I’ve heard talk about it is on the Washington Nationals band wagon. I believe the Nationals where 5 games behind the Cincinnati Reds coming into play today (Saturday). 5 games are a lot to make up with just about 15 games to go, but they’ve been the hottest team all month and have given themselves a chance. The American League wild card is an even bigger mess. It looks like either the Texas Rangers or the Oakland A’s will take one of the wild card spots, but the second spot is up for grab. You could take 4 or 5 teams and throw their name in a hat for that second spot. The Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and even the Kansas City Royals are trying to find a way to take the second wild card spot. It should make the final couple of weeks of the baseball season fun to watch.

We’re doing an NFL preview show on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. central standard time. You can find it on Blog Talk Radio and the name of the show is NFL Preview Week 2. Just like last season we;re making picks on the games and last week went like this; Mr. Fantasy and I went 10 – 5 and Dan the Man was 9 – 6. Week 2 started Thursday night with the New England Patriots beating the New York Jets 13 – 10. If you want to know if we think your favorite team will win listen in. Will also talk about injuries, fantasy advise and anything else we think of that might affect the game.

We don’t talk a lot about the PGA tour on the show, but last night (Friday) I had to mentioned that Jim Furyk shot a 59 Friday at the BMW championship in Lake Forest Illinois. This is the 6th time in PGA history that a 59 has been carded. Furyk need a birdie on the 18th hole to get to 59 and he hit his second shot out of the fairway to just a few feet of the hole. Of course he made the putt to get around in 59. It’s not a huge sports topic but I thought it was something that deserves mentioning.

Again I have to start this week out with apologizing for Friday’s show. More issues came up during the show and I know their where some problems listening to us on BlogTalkRadio.com and i am very sorry for these problems and hopefully when next Friday rolls around the problems will be worked out.

At the start of Friday’s show I mentioned I had read a couple of articles about the Chicago White Sox. Since Dan was off Friday Mr. Fantasy filled in for the entire show and the White Sox are his favorite baseball team. The articles talked about Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko retiring after this season. I’d be shocked to see Dunn retire, since he still has money left on that big free agent contract he signed with the White Sox. Konerko has had a solid career but I could see him retiring. It’s a lot like rebuilding without selling off your pieces. With the season the White Sox have had it might be good for the team to start looking for younger players to build around. Dunn has pretty much been a bust for the White Sox since they signed him. While he’s put up big home run numbers they don’t make up for low batting average. Dunn seems to struggle every season to stay about .200 and it’s tough to win with that kind of hitter in your line up. There’s still a few weeks left in the regular season, so will see what these two players decide to do with their careers.

The NFL season started on Thursday with the Denver Broncos beating the Baltimore Ravens 49 – 27. Peyton Manning threw for 462 yards and seven touchdowns. So every Peyton Manning fantasy owner was thrilled on Friday when they saw his stats. The rest of the teams are in action Sunday and week 1 wraps up Monday night with a doubleheader. I’m not going to go through all the match ups here as we starting a NFL preview Sunday morning show at 10:00 a.m. on Blog Talk Radio. The show is simply titled NFL preview week 1 if you’d like to listen.

We never had a chance to discuss this on the show but there was a huge deal made in the media about a fight at Philadelphia Eagles practice between cornerback Cary Williams and wide receiver Riley Cooper. Fights happen all the time at NFL training camps and practices, so you’re wondering why this one made news. Well as you know Cooper had a video released in the summer of him using a racial slur at a concert and Williams is a black man. In all the accounts I’ve read of this altercation Williams was the one who used the racial slur during the fight and it had nothing to do with what Cooper said in that video. It was just two players who had a fight at practice but since Cooper was involved it became a big media event. It’s sad that the media is going to try to turn everything Cooper does into a racial issue when it’s just a football play.

Happy Friday to You

20130903-234103.jpg

I want to start out this week by apologizing for last night’s (Friday’s) show. We had a ton of technical difficulties and ended up having the show get cut off five minutes early then we where suppose to. We didn’t get to our 9:00 p.m. live show ending and didn’t get to do our fifteen minute over run. I don’t know if it was the weather or the web site that where causing our issues but it was a rough night and I want to apologize to our listeners.

Schaumburg Stu filled in for Dan the Man on Wednesday night and we ended up talking quite a bit about professional wrestling. I started watching professional wrestling in the 1970’s and Schaumburg Stu started watching before I did. I think he’s been a wrestling fan since the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. Sadly neither of us are big fans of the new style of pro wrestling. Through the years Stu and I have seen some of the greatest pro wrestlers to ever step foot in the ring and the crop of guys wrestling right now don’t seem to be in that class. I don’t know if it’s the style they’re taught or how they’re booked but the sport just doesn’t seem the same to me. It seems like every time I turn on a wrestling show, I seem to end up watching a lot of promos and backstage skits instead of actually in ring wrestling. Stu and I have talked about if wrestling will ever go back to the style he and I used to really enjoy. Sadly, neither of us see this happening.

On Friday’s show, Mr. Fantasy filled in for Dan the Man. Dan went to the Kid Rock/ZZ Top concert, so I let him have the night off. We where trying to cover as many fantasy football topics as we could. We have fantasy drafts tonight (Saturday) and another one tomorrow night (Sunday); so we’re going to be busy. Adrian Petersen seems to be the consensus #1 pick but pretty much after that it’s wide open. Every expert seems to say that running backs will go early and often and that you can wait on a picking a quarterback. I guess we’ll see who I end up with this season. Either way, it’s always fun.

The NCAA wrapped up their investigation of Johnny Manziel and suspended him. Manziel won’t play the first half of Texas A & M’s game today (Saturday) against Rice. It doesn’t seem like much of a punishment and Manziel lawyer released a statement saying Manziel only took the suspension to “get back on the field”. When this story first broke I caught part of an interview a legal expert gave one of the many sports shows out there. He mentioned that the NCAA was going to have a difficult time proving that Manziel did what he was accused of. I’m sorry that I can’t remember this legal experts name because he was right on the money with his statement. I’ve had a lot of my Facebook friends cry about the fact that Manziel will only miss half of a game. They seem to forget that you can’t suspend him for what you think he did but what you can prove. Would I be surprised if Johnny Manziel took money for his autograph; no I wouldn’t be. Can the NCAA prove that he took money for his autograph; NO they can’t. Manziel is an exciting college football player and hopefully his name will just be associated with Texas A & M football for the rest of the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates have back to back weekend series. Pittsburgh won the first game last night (Friday) 5 – 0. Francisco Lirano pitched eight shutout inning for the Pirates in last nights victory. Today’s pitching match up Lance Lynn for St. Louis against A. J. Burnett for Pittsburgh. If either team can take advantage of these series they could win the National League central. As long as neither team collapses they should both make the playoffs but you’d rather win the division than have to play the one game wild card playoff game.

Ryan Braun released an apology this week and at least he admitted to using a performance enhancing drug. He used the injury excuse for turning to drugs but I don’t believe that at all. This apology was better than Jason Giambi’s years ago since Braun said he used drugs. I didn’t read Braun’s statement word for word but I wonder if he apologized to the guy who handle his sample. He killed this poor guy in the media trying to cover up his drug use. Now we’ll see if Braun’s teammate and the Milwaukee Brewers fans will forgive him. If he comes back and puts up good numbers I’m sure all will be forgotten; but if he comes back and struggles you wonder how the fans will react to him. If anyone believes that Braun only started using after he had an injury you’re really giving him the benefit of the doubt there.

On a positive baseball note it was announced yesterday that Vin Scully is coming back to broadcast Los Angles Dodger games next season. Scully is one of my favorite guys to listen to when I get that free MLB Extra Innings preview a couple of times a year. You have to wonder how many more seasons Scully can continue to broadcast games but I hope he sticks around as long as he can.

Dan the Man and I did our preview of the NFC & AFC South divisions on Thursday. It was my turn to do the NFC. So of course Dan the Man handled the AFC but I did have to help him a little. Hopefully you got a chance to listen live or you can go into the archives and listen still. The previews are fun to do and it really helps me in my fantasy drafts covering teams like this. There is so much talent in the NFC South on offense that it should be a fantasy players dream if they can land a few of these guys. A lot of the players in this division will go early at their positions. Doug Martin will be the 2nd or 3rd running back off the board. Jimmy Graham should be the 1st tight end selected. Julio Jones will be drafted early and Roddy White shouldn’t be too far behind him. We haven’t even mentioned quarterbacks as Drew Brees is a top three (3) guy with Matt Ryan being a solid fantasy pick and I wouldn’t complain if I had to start Cam Newton at quarterback. You can check out Mr. Fantasy’s mock draft to see where he has these guys going. Also look at his list of top players to see where he has these guys ranked.

There hasn’t been a lot of NBA talk on the show as of late but I saw where Chris Paul was voted president of the players union. I know there was a lot of buzz that LeBron James was going to run for this position. Paul is replacing Derrick Fischer as head of the players union. Paul is the top point guard in the NBA and I don’t know how much time he’ll have to allocate to the union, but hopefully it won’t affect his play on the court.

So not only is Alex Rodriguez performance enhancing drug (P.E.D.) user, he’s also a snitch according to a report from 60 Minutes. The news show is reporting that A Rod’s camp released the names of Ryan Braun, teammate Francisco Cervelli and other players who were involved in the Biogenesis scandal. Of course Rodriquez denied all of these reports in a press conference yesterday but did you expect him to say anything else. It’s a good thing for Alex Rodriquez that I’m not commissioner of baseball because I would’ve suspended him for life. I caught just a second of a report that said Ryan Braun is going to come out and admit he used P. E. D’s and apologize. This should be interesting because no one has ever really admitted they’ve used anything. Jason Giambi apologized for something when he had P. E. D. issues but he never mentioned what he was apologizing for. I have to wonder how the Yankees are handling all the A Rod garbage. It’s one thing to rat out someone from another team but he threw a teammate under the bus in all this. I also wonder how pitchers from other teams will handle this. Will they throw A Rod a little bit of chin music for snitching on one of their teammates. I’d have to think he’ll be hit by a few more pitches than he normally would be.

The NFL pre-season is up and running. Last night (Friday) Fox had a national game featuring the New England Patriots vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I watched almost half of the game. I don’t know about you but when the third stringers get into the game I normally stop watching. Oddly I caught the highlights of the game later at night and they seemed to want to try to find a way to talk about Tim Tebow. Now being a fantasy football player the big story to me was the injury to Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin. It looked like Martin took a knee to the helmet but was able to walk off under his own power and looked alright walking to the locker room. Martin of course is day-to-day and it’s early enough in the pre-season for him to recover for week 1. Now Martin is a top three pick in most, if not all fantasy football drafts and a serious injury to him would shake up everyone’s fantasy draft board. Hopefully he’ll be fine and end up being the top fantasy player people are counting on. Just a little more on the fantasy front. I heard one fantasy expert say that C. J. Spiller should be the 2nd pick in your fantasy draft right behind Adrian Peterson. This is an interesting pick for me since Spiller has never been the full-time starter. He split time with Fred Jackson last season until Jackson got injured. Spiller is that take it to the house kind of player every time he has the ball in his hands and is very effective in the passing game as well. On my board I had Doug Martin (Tampa Bay) and Arian Foster (Houston) ahead of Spiller. In most fantasy drafts Spiller was going right around pick #6 or #7 but has started to move up most draft boards. With any fantasy football league it depends on what scoring system you use on how these players will work out.

Dan the Man and I did a special show on Thursday previewing the NFC & AFC East divisions. We’re going to continue to do these previews and next week we go through the NFC & AFC South teams. It’s always fun for us to go through and do these previews. I got to do the AFC side of the preview and noticed that two of the teams I previewed had no idea who their starting quarterback will be. It actually also helps me find those sleeper type players that help your team win your league. We’re going through all the divisions with special Thursday show and I hope you’ve had a chance to listen and they help you out.

If you’re a fan of National League baseball a lot of experts are saying your playoffs are set. It’s the Atlanta Braves out of the East. The Los Angeles Dodgers out of the West. The other three (3) playoff teams are out of the National League Central division. Either the Pittsburgh Pirates or the St. Louis Cardinals winning the division and the Cincinnati Reds claiming the 2nd wild card spot. Of course either the Pirates or the Cardinals would be a wild card team depending on who wins the division. Sadly for Schaumburg Stu he has to “wait until next year” for his Chicago Cubs.

20130811-154820.jpg

So many sports stories this week it’s tough to figure out where to start. P.E.D’s, NCAA violations and football started; so here we go.

Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) got himself suspended for 211 games. By far the most out of all the other performance enhancing drug users. He of course appealed the suspension so he could play this season with the New York Yankees. The reports are that they won’t hear the appeal case until the off-season. So, A-Rod will be able to finish this season and then we’ll see. Let’s face it, this guy is guilty. His press conference was a huge joke and he just lied his way through it like every other statement he’s ever given. I think the worst part for me about this guy is he’s been going around speaking to kids about not using steroids and other type of drugs. How frightening is it that this guy would’ve been standing in front of a group of children telling them how bad something is and then turning around and doing it right afterwards. All the other players accepted their suspension which was 50 games for each player. The new story that has just come out and we didn’t get to it on the show was Jack Clark accusing Albert Pujols of using performance enhancing drugs. I’m sure we’ll cover this on Sunday’s show. The Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers made trades to cover the positions where they lost players to drug suspensions. The Tigers got José Iglesias in a three team deal to play shortstop while Jhonny Peralta is gone and the Rangers traded for Alex Rios to fill Nelson Cruz’s spot while he’s gone. I believe these where the only two players that were on contending teams that where suspended during this time.

Johnny Manziel found himself involved in another situation with the NCAA this week. It’s being reported that Manziel was paid for some autographs which is a violation of NCAA rules. Apparently there is a video of Manziel signing some helmets that were sold by a broker. Of course there’s nothing wrong with signing the helmets and there’s no proof on the video the Manziel was paid for the autographs. The Manziel family has hired a lawyer who’s dealt with the NCAA before, so we’ll see what else comes out of this situation. I have heard some legal experts say they doubt the NCAA will ever be able to prove if Manziel was paid for these autographs or not. Jadeveon Clowney and Teddy Bridgewater’s names have also came out during this investigation but no evidence has been found against any of these players. With the college football season just a few weeks away I doubt any of these players will miss any time at all.

Now if you’ve listened to the show you know about “The Bet.” Dan the Man and Mr. Fantasy made a bet on the show on who would be the best team in California. Dan the Man took the Dodgers and Mr. Fantasy has all the other teams. Right now the Oakland A’s are the only team standing in Dan’s way of winning. We added that the team that goes the farthest in the playoffs would win “The Bet” as well. The Dodgers are winning the National League West while the A’s are in a battle to win the American League West. It looks like the only way either of these teams will make the playoffs is to win their division. By the way the winner of “The Bet” gets a fitted hat.

The NFL pre-season has started, so football is right around the corner. It can be tough to watch an entire pre-season game. I always watch the first few series of a game but once the starters come out of the game it’s not as entertaining to watch. It looks like the biggest battle in the pre-season is who’s going to be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Michael Vick and Nick Foles will both get snaps with the first team offense during the pre-season. Teams don’t show a whole lot during the pre-season but we get to sit through these games.

So I’m actually a day behind getting this week’s How was your Week posted. I had another engagement yesterday that prevented me from getting it written, but I figure it gave you all one (1) more day to check out Mr. Fantasy’s first mock draft of the season.

It looks like the BioGenesis suspension are going to be announced on Monday. Of course, the big player in all this is Alex Rodriguez (A Rod) of the New York Yankees. While nothing has been officially announced yet the reports are that A Rod will receive a suspension that will not only last through this season but all of next season. There are twelve other players that will receive suspensions on Monday as well. The reports are that these twelve players have agreed to take fifty game suspensions. A Rod has denied any involvement in this and he made a statement that didn’t make major league baseball Commissioner Bud Selig happy. Selig was so upset with A Rod’s statement that he cut off all negotiations with A Rod’s camp on an agreement for a suspensions. I guess you have to wonder if this will close the Anthony Bosch, BioGenesis chapter in major league baseball.

The NFL exhibition season starts on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins take on the Dallas Cowboys in the Hall of Fame game. Reports are that Tony Romo won’t play in today’s game. Romo had off-season surgery and the Cowboys will hold him out of today’s game. Being that these two teams get an extra pre-season game you wonder how much we’ll see the starters play today. I’d guess that we’ll only see the starters for a series or two and that will be it. This means we’re just five weeks away from the NFL regular season starting. Hopefully you have your fantasy draft up and ready to go. Mr. Fantasy posted the first five rounds of his mock draft for you to take a look at. It’s a good guide to start you on your way this season. Of course these will change as we get closer to the regular season. There will be more injuries to deal with as we get closer to the regular season. Hopefully there won’t be to many more season ending injuries. It seems like we have had a few more than usual to start the season.

Something we didn’t really get to cover on the show this week was Greg Oden signing with the Miami Heat. Oden was the #1 overall pick by the Portland Trailblazers. I believe it was the 2007 NBA draft when Oden went #1; of course Kevin Durant was the 2nd player chosen in that draft. Miami is a good landing spot for Oden. He won’t be asked to try to carry a team and he’ll be able to just worry about rebounding and playing defense. Oden has had three microfracture surgeries on his knee to try to get it right. You’d have to think the Heat will monitor his minutes and not ask Oden to do too much.

Fantasy; how close is football?

It’s getting closer to the trading deadline in major league baseball. Right now the Chicago Cubs are the only team selling off some of their pitching. Scott Feldman went to Baltimore earlier in the season and just this week Matt Garza was traded to the Texas Rangers. There’s still a lot of talk about some pitchers. Jake Peavey of the Chicago White Sox has been talked about and lately so has Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee. Lee actually has been scratched from his start tonight (Saturday) because of a sore neck. Maybe the Phillies didn’t want him to make another start while they try to work out a trade. As I believe we’ve talked about on the show July 31st isn’t the end of trades for your favorite team. After July 31st a player has to go through waivers before he can be traded.

NFL training camps have opened and their’s been a lot of coverage from them. I saw some coverage from the New England Patriots camp and surprise, surprise they found a way to talk quite a bit about Tim Tebow. I guess this is to be expected because the major media can’t let Tebow go, but he’s a 3rd string quarterback. They all went wild when he caught a couple of passes from 2nd string quarterback Ryan Mallet yesterday. I haven’t quite figured out the fascination with Tebow, but the media loves him. On Friday’s show we talked about this and we’re wondering if it’s that he’s a safe story. We didn’t think Tebow would end up on the wrong side of the law and that’s why they like to talk about him. For a guy who probably won’t take a snap from the center all season Tebow makes quite a bit of news.

As we’ve discussed a few times there are quite a few fantasy football drafts that have already happened. I’d love to know what the guy who drafted Aaron Hernandez feels right now. What if you reached and took Percy Harvin early in your draft. There’s a chance Harvin may need hip surgery and it’s been reported he could miss anywhere from two (2) to four (4) months and some reports are saying he’d miss the entire season. Did you draft Geno Smith figuring he’d eventually beat out Mark Sanchez. Did you draft Michael Vick or Nick Foles or even reached farther for Matt Barkley; one of them will start for the Eagles this season. There will be more injuries between now and the season opener and these guys who drafted early are going to be looking back and shaking there heads over these draft picks. I enjoy fantasy football as much as the next guy, but there’s no chance I’d even get into a league with a draft that’s done this early. One (1) or two (2) bad injuries and your season is over before the kickoff of week 1.

I saw where a former employee at the Biogenesis clinic mentioned that there are more major league baseball players who received P.E.D’s from Anthony Bosch whose names haven’t come out yet. This former employee said there are players in all the other major sports and MMA that saw Anthony Bosch. You have to wonder how many more names might come out of this situation.
