Week 10 just wrapped up in the NFL and here’s how we did with our picks. Schaumburg Stu and Mr. Fantasy tied for the lead in Week 10 at 9-4 while Dan the Man and I stumbled under .500 at 6-8. Schaumburg Stu is beginning to pull away on the season with a 92-55 overall record. Dan the Man is holding onto 2nd place at 85-62, but Mr. Fantasy has cut his lead down to 4 games as Mr. Fantasy is 81-66 overall. Sadly I’m at the rear of the pack after 1o weeks at 78-69. Hopefully Week 11 will be my week.

If you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan do you want to see them stay with Dak Prescott at quarterback or would you like to see them turn the job back over to a healthy Tony Romo? Romo met with the media yesterday and said of Prescott “He’s earned the right to be our quarterback”. Under Prescott the Cowboys have the best record in the NFL at 8-1. Prescott has thrown for 2339 yards and is completing 66.8% of his passes. Prescott has thrown 14 touchdown passes and just 2 interceptions. The only starting quarterback with less interceptions this season is Tom Brady and he missed the first 4 games of the season. Sam Bradford and Russell Wilson each have 2 interceptions as well. While Prescott has been sacked 13 times he also averages 4.0 yards per carry and has scored 4 rushing touchdowns. Romo hasn’t played a game this season and only played in 4 games last season because of injury. The Cowboys where 12-4 back in 2014 when Romo started all 16 games that season. Romo is in his 12th season with the Cowboys. Romo has 34,154 career yards, 247 career touchdowns and 117 career interceptions in 149 games. It can be a tough decision especially since it’s a plyer who’s had success in his career and lost his job due to an injury, but it looks as though it’s Prescott’s job. Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones even said that Prescott “won’t be looking over his shoulder”. Which pretty gave the stamp of approval for Prescott to stay in the starting role. Prescott and the Cowboys put there 8-game winning streak on the line this week as they host the AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens Sunday. This appears to be the first game that Romo will be active for as the back up quarterback.

NASCAR is down to it’s final race of the season. On Sunday they’ll run the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. There are four drivers left in The Chase for the Sprint Cup. It will be Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch racing for the championship. Johnson has 6 Sprint Cup championship on his record while Kyle Busch is the defending Sprint Cup champion; his only championship. Edwards and Logano are looking for there first Sprint Cup title. Johnson, Edwards and Logano all won their way into the championship race while Busch got in a points. On the season Johnson and Busch won 4 races while Logano and Edwards won 3 races. Logano got the won last week at Phoenix International Raceway, but will that give him some momentum coming into the final race. Johnson has the championship experience to rely on. Busch was here last season and got the win to take the title. Edwards was close to winning the title in 2011. He lost a tiebreaker to Tony Stewart for the championship. Does it look as though one driver has an advantage coming into Sunday’s race? We’ll find out on Sunday if Kyle Busch defends his title, if Jimmie Johnson picks up his 7th title or if Joey Logano or Carl Edwards can pick up there first Sprint Cup championship.

Steven Stamkos the captain of the Tampa Bay Lighting and one of the top players in the NHL may miss some time with a low body injury. Stamkos scored early in the Lightings 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings last night before exiting the game. Stamkos left the game in the 1st period after he collided with Detroit’s Gustav Nyquist along the boards. After the collision Stamkos didn’t return to the game. Tampa Bay’s head coach said Stamkos “will be evaluated tomorrow”. Stamkos is a 6-time All-Star and was off to a good start to the 2016-17 season. Stamkos’ goal was his 9th of the season and he has 20 points in 17 games. The Lighting have had to play without Stamkos before as he played in just one of Tampa Bay’s playoff games last season after having surgery for a blood clot on April 4th.

While Stamkos did get a goal in Tampa Bay’s 4-3 win last night. Nikita Kucherov scored 2 goals and an assisted on another while defenseman Nikita Nesterov scored the other goal and had an assist. Vladislav Namestnikov also had 2 assists for the Lighting. Ben Bishop stopped 25 of the 28 shots he faced last night. Frans Nielsen, Ryan Sproul and Henrik Zetterberg had the Red Wings goals in the loss. Petr Mrazek stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced in the game.

The Los Angeles Clippers are off to the best start in the Western Conference at 10-1 while the Cleveland Cavaliers are leading the eastern Conference at 9-1.

While it is very early in the season DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors is off to a hot start averaging 33.2 points per game (PPG). Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder is averaging 32 PPG. Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans is averaging 30.5 PPG. James Harden of the Houston Rockets is averaging 30.3 PPG and Damien Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers rounds out the Top 5 scores with 29.8 PPG.

Hasan Whiteside of the Miami Heat leads the NBA in rebounding grabbing 15.9 rebounds per game (RPG). Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons is next with 14.3 RPG. Marcin Gortat of the Washington Wizards and DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers are each getting 12.4 RPG while Dwight Howard now with the Atlanta Hawks grabs 12.3 RPG.

Harden tops all players in assists with 12.6 assists per game (APG). Westbrook is next on the list handing out 9.9 APG. LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers is at 9.6 APG. Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers is giving out 8.5 APG while John Wall of the Washington Wizards is handing out 8.3 APG.

Hopefully some of these guys are on either your favorite NBA team or your fantasy team.

The Dallas Cowboys are 2-1 and in sole possession of 1st place in the NFC East going into their Week 4 game against the 0-3 3 New Orleans Saints. You’d think a team that was in 1st place wouldn’t have to many more concerns other than winning games, but the Cowboys are in a unique situation. Dez Bryant was injured in Game 1 of the season and isn’t expected back for 4-6 more weeks, but there are some experts saying he might be done for the season. Even though it was an injury to one of the top wide receivers in all of the NFL; well it’s the NFL and injuries happen. The in the 2nd game of the season Tony Romo goes down with a broken clavicle. Romo needed surgery and is scheduled to return Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins. So now the Cowboys top 2 offensive players are injured and out for quite a few games. How does the team stay afloat in what is shaping up to be a winnable division even without Bryant and Romo. Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley will be expected to step up and fill the void left by Bryant at wide receiver. The Cowboys traded for Brice Butler to help at receiver, but he hasn’t appeared in a game since being acquired; so he doesn’t look like he’ll be able to help fill in for the injured Bryant. Now you can still piece together a solid receiving core with what the Cowboys have and with some good performances from tight ends Jason Witten and Gavin Escobar. Maybe there’s a chance they add a veteran like Wes Welker or Hakeem Nicks; who are still out on the free agent market. While this group could never replace a receiver like Bryant they could help the team tread water until Bryant can get healthy and return. Now the void that Romo created with his injury is more difficult to fill. Brandon Weeden was the back up quarterback coming out of training camp and made the start Week 3 a 39-28 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The Cowboys did send a draft pick to the Buffalo Bills for quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel is in his 11th season and most people remember him as the quarterback who filled in for Tom Brady in 2008 and went 10-5 as their starting quarterback. Cassel has 72 career starts at quarterback and may be a better option under center than Weeden once he learns the Cowboys offensive scheme. I’m not sure if the Cowboys or anyone else in the NFL know what they have in Weeden. Weeden is in his 4th NFL season, but is almost 32 years old. He’s a former 1st round draft pick; 22nd overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 draft. He started 15 games for Cleveland that season. Dallas signed Weeden as a free agent in 2014 and he played in 5 games, starting 1. No announcement has been made; so it looks as though Weeden will be the starter against New Orleans this week. Too be fair Weeden played well in the loss against Atlanta. He went 22 of 26 for 232 with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. Weeden seemed to mostly be throwing check downs  routes which seemed to be the Cowboys game plan with him. Running back Lance Dunbar led the team in receptions wit 10 for 100 yards. Weeden is not the most mobile quarterback and even behind what is considered a great offensive line he was sacked twice by Atlanta. With the Cowboys quarterback position in a bit of flux maybe they should turn to the running game with that great offensive line they have. Remember DeMarco Murray was allowed to leave in free agency this past off season and the Cowboys signing to help replace him at running back was Darren McFadden. McFadden has always been injury prone, but last season he did play in all 16 games for the Oakland Raiders, but he wasn’t there #1 running back. At one point in time McFadden was considered a #1 running back and even topped a 100 yards rushing in 2010, but he doesn’t look like the answer in the backfield and has really been the Cowboys #2 running back with Joseph Randle getting the bulk of the carries with Dunbar coming in on passing downs. Now Randle has put up pretty good numbers trough 3 games behind that Cowboys offensive line. Randle has 48 carries for 203 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 6 passes for 74 yards. The question is; can Randle handle the load a #1 running back is expected to? and carry the team while Bryant and Romo recover from there injuries? Now I’m not sure who’s sold on Randle as that guy and who’s not, but what really matters is are the Cowboys sold on him? Now there may be some help out there in the form of a top running back if the Cowboys where interested in making a deal. Is it time for te Cowboys to pick up the telephone and place a call to the 0-3 Chicago Bears and see what it would take to get Matt Forte in a Cowboys uniform. If you noticed this week the Bears sent Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers for a draft pick and Jon Bostic was dealt to the New England Patriots also for a draft pick. The Bears are clearly in rebuilding mode and while no one in their right mind would take Jay Cutler and his bad, bad contract the Cowboys should be talking a look at his best weapon; Forte. If the Cowboys came to the Bears with an offer of a 2nd round pick, a 5th round pick and a player like McFadden; so the Bears aren’t short handed in there backfield; would that be enough? That’s pretty good value in the NFL as far as trades are and looking at the Bears by the time the team is ready to contend again Forte might be at the end of his career.Forte is one of the top running backs in the game both rushing and receiving. He’s even managed to average 4.7 yards per carry this season behind a terrible Bears offensive line and let’s not forget he had 102 receptions last season to go with 1038 rushing yards. Now Dallas may have to try to make some other moves to get a player like Forte under there salary cap and that may actual be the biggest hold up to a deal like this happening. If the Cowboys could find takers for players like Randle and Dunbar that would assist in this deal. While you think that might hurt the Dallas backfield; Forte is an every down back and the Cowboys did trade for Christine Micheal before the season started. Forte is definitely  the player who could keep the Cowboys contending in the NFC East while Bryant and Romo get healthy. Looking at the NFC East the Philadelphia Eagles looked better last week, but they still don’t seem to have that Chip Kelly offense under control yet. The New York Giants are still the dumbest team in the NFL and dumb teams find ways to lose games not win them. The Washington Redskins are well the Washington Redskins and while they looked good in their 1 win they reverted to form last week and aren’t expected to contend. Just think of the numbers Forte would put up running the football behind that Cowboys offensive line. He’d be a perfect check down guy for either Weeden or Cassel which ever one is playing quarterback and then imagine the weapon he’d be with Romo under center and Bryant out at wide receiver. Can or will the Cowboys find a way to make this move and would Matt Forte save the Cowboys season.

Two weeks into the NFL season and one thing is becoming clear to me.We’re not very good at picking winners and it’s a good thing we don;t bet on these games. Schaumburg Stu won Week 2 with a record of 8-8, Mr. Fantasy and I where 6-10 while Dan the Man went 5-11. Through two weeks Schaumburg Stu and Mr. Fantasy are toed for the over all lead with a record of 17-15. Dan the Man is 15-17 while I am bringing up the rear at 13-19. Let’s hope Week 3 goes better for us.

Did you have the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles starting the season 0-2. Obviously it’s early in the season, but have any of these teams showed any signs of coming around to the team you thought they would be. Luckily for the Saints and the Eagles they play in relatively weaker divisions than the other 0-2 teams. Don’t forget that the Carolina Panthers won the NFC South with a record of 7-8-1 last season; so the Saints can easily get back in it. While these teams cab easily gain ground just by beating the teams in their divisions when they meet. Now even though the Eagles did just lose a game to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 they may still be in the best spot of all that 0-2 teams. With all the injuries the Cowboys have incurred early this season and as bad as the Washington Redskins may be along with the fact that the New York Giants have been the worst team in the NFL the first two weeks of the season the NFC East could easily be the worst division in the entire NFL. So if Chip Kelly can get the Eagles going in the right direction and that’s easier said than done with the way they’ve played these first two weeks they may have the easiest road to a division title. Of course the question is; can they straighten out their issues?

After there 27-26 Week 1 victory over the Giants, the Cowboys found out they’d be without there best wide Receiver Dez Bryant for possible up to 10 weeks. Then during their Week 2 game against the Eagles which ended up being a 20-10 win quarterback Tony Romo broke his clavicle and was placed on injured reserve with a return. That means Romo will be out for at least 8 weeks and will miss at least 7 games. The Cowboys did sign Matt Cassell to help fill the void left by the Romo injury, but you have to figure this week against the Atlanta Falcons who are also 2-0 that Brandon Weeden will be the starting quarterback. Weeden was 7 of 7 for 73 yards and a touchdown in relief of Romo on Sunday. In Bryant’s absence Jason Witten led the team in receptions with 7, but Terrence Williams led the tam in receiving yards with 84 and caught the only receiving touchdown. Cole Beasely did catch 4 passes, but only managed 14 yards on those catches. While the Cowboys have one of if not the best offensive line in football, but they’ll need to find a way to get more production out of there wide receivers while Bryant and Romo are out to continue to be successful. Will have to see if newly acquired Brice Butler or Devin Street can step up at receiver or maybe it’s time that Gavin Escobar shows something as a second tight end in this offense. Even with a very good offensive line the running game has struggled. Joseph Randle has gotten the most carries through 2 games; 34, but is only averaging 3.4 yards per carry. Darren McFadden has gotten 16 carries through 2 games , but he’s only averaging 2.9 yards per carry. While Lance Dunbar has been a factor in the passing game out of the backfield where he has 11 catches for 115 yards; he has only carried the football 1 time for 8 yards. Even with the offensive line the Cowboys have they don’t have a rushing touchdown. They did go out and make a trade with the Seahawks for Christine Michael right before the season started and you have to wonder if he’ll get a chance in the backfield. Michael has been inactive for the first 2 games of the season, but with the production the running backs have given the Cowboys you’d have to think they would take a look at him. Dallas is off to a 2-0 start, but you have to wonder if they’ll be able to at least tread water until Romo and Bryant return.

You have to think that the National League Cy Young race is won to 2 pitchers. Sorry Clayton Kershaw, but it’s not you this season. Voters have to looking at Zack Greinke; Kershaw’s teammate on the Los Angeles Dodgers or Chicago Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta. Arrieta made his 31st start last night and pitched a 3-hit shutout against the Milwaukee Brewers to get his 20th victory of the season. Arrieta struck out 11 while walking just 1 last night. Arrieta also lowered his ERA to 1.88. Greinke has made 30 starts and will make his 31st start tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Greinke is 18-3 and leads baseball with an ERA of 1.65. With both the Cubs and the Dodgers headed into the playoffs and the Cubs going into the wild card game you have to wonder if either pitcher will make a 32nd start this season. You’d think both guys would be the pitcher their team would want on the mound to open a playoff series or pitch them into a playoff series by winning a wild card game. Imagine a NLDS series against the Dodgers where it’s Greinke in Game 1 followed by Kershaw in Game 2. Then they could bring them back for a Game 4 and 5 if needed. Even with some of the struggles Kershaw had in last seasons playoffs it’s still a pitching set up any team would take. The Cubs won’t quite have that set up as they’ll have Arrieta to pitch them into a NLDS series it would be Jon Lester getting that Game 1 start and Arrieta would be back in Game 3 or maybe 4. Cy Young voters are going to have to make a tough choice between Greinke and Arrieta and no matter which guys wins it there will be a case for the other one to win it.

We are in playoffs now.  Hope you made the cut, and I would say stay with what got you there.  If you have decisions that need to be made, maybe this will help you.

Quarterbacks Start’ems.

  • Eli Manning – It’s December and the Giants win.  Falcons are 17th against the pass and Eli has thrown for 8 TD’s in previous 3 games.
  • Cam Newton-Faces bad San Diego Defense.
  • Russell Wilson- Has averaged two TD’s and only thrown 1 INT over the last 5 games.  He plays a soft Buffalo pass defense
  • Matthew Stafford –Arizona already has given up.  Detroit is a dangerous team thru the air.

Quarterback Sit’em

  • Andrew Luck –Has thrown 8 TD’s and 10 INT’s over the last 5 games.  He faces a tough defense that is going to prove last week was a bump in the road.
  • Jay Cutler-Bear’s system is bad.
  • Tony Romo- Was subpar against a good Bengals defense, now faces a great Pittsburg defense that must win this week if they are going to make the playoffs.
  •  Colin Kaepernick-This is the biggest game in his NFL career and he faces the best team in the NFL.  I think he is going to be glad NFL players have short memories this week.

Running Back Start’em

  • Steven Jackson-has been a good play the last 5 weeks and this trend continues against the Vikings average run defense.
  • Alfred Morris-He has proven when the offense leans on him he produces.  This week looks like they will need to with RGIII’s injury.
  •  Frank Gore-Needs 30 yds to break the franchise rushing record.  He faces one of the worst rush defense and should have solid production this week.
  • C.J. Spiller– Fred Jackson is out this week and Seattle is 22nd against the rush.

Running Back Sit’ems

  • Chris Johnson-Jets can play defense.
  • Demarco Murray- Pittsburg gives up the fewest rushing yds.
  • Ryan Mathews– He is on my list of biggest busts this year.  He has 1 rush TD this year and has only broke 90 yds rushing once.
  • Doug Martin-You must start him, but Drew Brees against the worst pass defense in the NFLTampa Bay may need to abandon the run to keep up.

Wide Receiver Start’em

  • Cecil Shorts-Number 1 target in Jacksonville.  He will get plenty of targets this week against Miami.
  • Hakeem Nicks- Now that he has returned he has seen 10 targets a game.  This is the time of year the Giants play their best football.
  •  Chris Givens-I know he only had 3 receptions last week, but he was targeted 10 times.  He will be thrown to early and often.
  • Greg Jennings-Next man up with Jordy Nelson out.  Greg Jennings will step in and have a great game.

Wide Receiver Sit’em

  • Larry Fitzgerald-Write him off for the rest of the year.
  • Stevie Johnson-Seattle is 4th against the pass. Big Jack you have over valued this guy all year.
  • Torrey Smith-He disappears against good defenses.  This week is Denver and they have a great passing defense.
  • Dez Bryant- Has a broken finger and faces a great defense this week.

Tight End Start’em

  • Greg Olsen-TD in previous 2 games.
  • Martellus Bennett– TD in previous 2 games
  • Kyle Rudolf-Rebounds from bad game against Chicago.  Had a TD in previous 3 games.
  • Heath Miller – 5 for 66 yds

Tight End Sit’em

  • Brandon Pettigrew– Not getting a lot of looks
  • Antonio Gates– Packed it up.
  • Jermichael Finley-Not playing good
  • Owen Daniels-Bust alert, been in a funk last 3 weeks

Let me know how you like this and if you agree.  You can always get me @mrfanofsports or Email the show.
