Week 10 is now in the books and you need to start preparing for week 11 and the rest of the season.

We had major injuries in week 10 so if you have any of the following players monitor their status this week.

  • Michael Vick
    • Nick Foles may take over if he plays well.  If you own Michael Vick you may be without him for the rest of the year.
    • Jay Cutler
    • Ben Roethlisberger
    • Alex Smith
    • Julio Jones
    • Ahmad Bradshaw
    • Fred Jackson
    • Brandon Myers
    • Domenik Hixon
    • Blaine Gabbert

Trade deadline in most leagues is approaching.  Making a move now could be the difference between having a good run in the playoffs or not making it.

It’s accountability time for my suggestions last week.

Start’em Sit’em Week 10

This is an interesting week in the NFL schedule.  When I look at the match ups this week I see a lot of interesting story line.

The Eagles host the Cowboys which is the battle of two under achieving teams.  I wonder if the game will be as exciting as the speculation of the fate of everyone involved.

The Bears host one of the premier teams in the AFC as the Texans come to town.  This is the real first test for the bears.  We will find out if the Bears are contenders or pretenders.  Can the AFC compete with the NFC?

Payton Manning and company travel to Carolina to Face Cam Newton and the struggling Panthers.  Can Cam Newton regain some of his swagger from last season?  Will Manning continue to prove he is the number one QB in the NFL?

On to Start’em and Sit’em

Quarterbacks Start’ems.

  • Matt Ryan Faces off against a defense that only causes mayhem against the Eagles.  The Saints rank 29th against the pass.  The Falcons have one of the best tandems in the NFL right now plus a TE that is having a great year.  Falcons will throw early and often and Matt Ryan owners have a great day.
  • Tony Romo Faces a struggling Eagles Defense that has given up season highs in points allow since firing their defensive coordinator.   Look for this trend to continue this week.
  • Matthew Stafford has averaged 300 yds a game this season.  His issue is he has not been able to find the end zone this year.  You saw sparks of last year when he threw 3 TD passes.  Look for him to have another solid week this week.
  • Carson Palmer is averaging 318 yds in the last 4 games and has thrown 8 TDs over that span.  He faces a Ravens team that has lost their heart and soul.  The Ravens are no longer a defensive juggernaut.  This looks to be a good play this week.

Quarterback Sit’em

  • Christian Ponder threw for 111 yds last time he faced Detroit.  His 30th rank offense fairs no better in the pass game this week.  Look for Ponder to throw for less than 200 yds for the 5th time this season.
  • Michael Vick faces a strong Cowboys pass defense that will create problems that his offensive line can’t handle.  Look for the turnovers to continue and the offensive struggles will continue also.
  • Matt Schaub has struggled against good defenses this year and this week he gets a premier defense.  The Bears can be soft underneath but they are creating lots of turn over’s.  Don’t expect Schaub to throw more than 200 yds and maybe a TD.
  •  Jay Cutler faces the 4th best passing defense in the NFL.  The Bears passing offense is ranked 29th and has been the beneficiary of an opportunistic defense.

Running Back Start’em

  • Steven Ridley Faces the Bill’s defense.  Only reason you need to start him.
  • C.J Spiller is the man in Buffalo and it looks like Buffalo has figured that out.  Look for him to have a lot of touches this week in both the running game and passing game.
  • Willis McGahee has been unproductive this year against good run defenses but this week he gets a bad Carolina run defense.  Look for him to put up similar numbers as he did against the Saints and the Raiders.  100 yds and a TD this week.
  • Frank Gore faces a Rams team that was run all over 2 weeks ago by New England.  The 49ers are a run first team and look for Frank Gore to get lots of carriers this week.

Running Back Sit’ems

  • Jamaal Charles has only rushed for over 100 yds twice this year.  He faces a Steelers defense that only allows 88 yds a game.
  • Shonn Greene has had 17 or more touches over the last three weeks and has produced good numbers.  This week he faces a very good Seattle defense and will disappear has he has all year when he faces a good defense
  • Steven Jackson and the Rams will not get the running game going against the 49ers.
  • Fred Jackson has seen his touches decrease in each of the last couple of weeks.  Increase work load for C.J Spiller = sit Fred Jackson.

Wide Receiver Start’em

  • Vincent Jackson faces his former team and they can be thrown against.
  • Miles Austin faces a bad Eagles defense.
  •  Brian Hartline faces a bad pass defense.  Look for lots of success against the 27th ranked Titans.
  • Denarius Moore is a favorite target for Carson Palmer.  The Ravens are looking for life after Ray Lewis and company.  He should have a productive day.

Wide Receiver Sit’em

  • Steve Smith has 1 TD so far this year.  The Broncos defense is solid and Carolina’s offense has been up and down all year.
  • Stevie Johnson week 4 against New England he 2 passes for 23 yds.  New England is better now than they were then and Johnson is banged up.  Look for him to have another bad showing.
  • Andre Johnson will get a lot of attention this week from Charles Tilman.  The Bears defense is for real.  Look for his production to drop this week.
  • Hakeem Nicks Still has not shown up for a game this year.  Until he gets involved in the offense look for other options.

Tight End Start’em

  • Antonio Gates has only scored 3 TDs this year and has not been productive.  He still is a good Tight End and faces the 32nd ranked pass defense this week.  Look for a good performance this week.
  • Jason Witten Eagles Defense, Eagles Defense
  • Dustin Keller has returned to the Jets.  He has been targeted 7 and 11 times over the past two weeks and this will continue in Seattle this week.
  • Brandon Pettigrew is healthy and plays good against the Vikings.  He will be the reason the Vikings lose this week.

Tight End Sit’em

  • Kyle Rudolph bad Vikings offense.
  • Greg Olsen is over rated.  He has 1 TD this year and draws a bad match up against the Broncos
  • Scott Chandler had a great outing against New England last time, but they will have an answer this week.
  • Brent Celek under used this year on a under achieving Eagles team.

Start’em/Sit’em

This is my first of what I hope to be many contributions to Sports Time Radio. Let’s start with an explanation of what Start’em/ Sit’em is.

In this segment I hope to point out favorable and unfavorable matchups and how they will impact players. Now you don’t need me to tell you to start Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson or any other elite player but I may tell you they don’t have a favorable match up and look for that player’s production to take a hit.

My goal is to help you find those other players that will give you good production this week

Let’s start with quarterbacks Start’ems.

  • Matt Schaub gets the Buffalo Bills and their 31st ranked defense. They Bill’s can’t stop the pass or rush. I expect this to get out of hand quick. Expect the Texans to run and run some more, but Schaub will toss a couple of TD passes, but his passing yards will not be huge.
  • Cam Newton looked better against an opportunist Chicago defense last week. Late mistake cost him, but expect big things from him against the worst pass defense in the NFL.
  • Matthew Stafford and the Lions are better than their 3-4 record indicates. No better way to right the ship then facing a poorest Jacksonville Defense. Stafford and company get things on track and have big numbers passing this week.
  • Michael Vick and the Eagles bad offensive line with have an easy time against a bad Saints Defense. I expect Vick to throw 2 TDs and run for 1 more this week. If you have him start him this week.

Quarterback Sit’em

  • John Skelton offensive line is bad, the Cardinals have no running game and Clay Matthews is very good. Skelton has an impossible task this week.
  • Andy Dalton faces a Denver defense that only gave up 14 points against Drew Brees and the Saints. The Bengals are not in the same class as the Saints offense.
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buffalo Bill’s only shot to win is if their number 3 ranked rushing attack can win the time of possession battle and keep the Texans offense off the field. The Texans pass defense only allows 200 yds a game thru the air.
  • Christian Ponder leads the 27th ranked passing offense against a physical Settle defense.

Running Back Start’em

  • Alfred Morris is a work horse. He averages 19 carries a game and has three 100 yd games this year. I wish he found the end zone more often, but expect 20 carries 100 yds and 1 TD this week.
  • Reggie Bush will see a lot of touches this week despite the return of Daniel Thomas . The colt’s defense is tough against the pass. Look for 16-18 carries for 90 yds and a TD
  • Doug Martin gets a Raiders defense that can be run on. The Bucs have been getting better every week since their bye. Expect the trend to continue as he gets 20 carriers for 105 yds and a TD.

Running Back Sit’ems

  • Chris Johnson Faces a Bears defense that gives up only 78 yds per game, a long run of 28 yds and 1 rushing TD this season. Look elsewhere this week.
  • Vick Ballard has been everyone’s sleeper pick the last couple of weeks. He really has not lived up to the hype. He faces a tough Dolphins run defense and I don’t see him starting this week.
  • C.J Spiller is part of the number 3 rushing attack, but this game gets out of hand early and the Bill’s are forced to abandon the running attack. Don’t expect him to be a factor this week.
  • Darren McFadden has been inconsistent at best. He has not put up good numbers in back to back games yet this year. The Bucs can stop the run and will. Don’t expect him to him a good game this week.

Wide Receiver Start’em

  • Reggie Wayne has been targeted an average of 13 times a game. Look for him to continue that against this Miami defense. I see 8 receptions for 115 yds this week.
  • Steve Smith(Car) after Newton is the weapon in Carolina. He gets targeted on average 9 times a game. Look for this number to be higher against a bad Redskins pass defense. He will have his best game of the year. 10 receptions, 130 yds and 2 tds.
  • Demaryius Thomas is official a must start. If you own him start him! He is Manning’s favorite target and I feel the best Wide receiver for fantasy the rest of the year.
  • Denarius Moore has been quietly having a good year in Oakland and has evolved into Carson Palmer’s top target. He should have success this week against the Bucs.

Wide Receiver Sit’em

  • Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals are in a down ward spiral. The wheels have fallen off and this week the Packers will take advantage of this. He has another quite game.
  • Stevie Johnson, see Ryan Fitzpatrick.
  • Brian Hartline has had 2 monster games this season, but 2 games don’t make a season. The Colt’s Pass Defense is good and Brian Hartline will not be.
  • Hakeem Nicks returned from injury and it was uneventful at best. Victor Cruz is the man in NY and the Steelers defense is number 1 against the pass. This week will be the same as last week.

Tight End Start’em

  • Owen Daniels
  • Jason Witten
  • Brandon Pettigrew

Tight End Sit’em

  • Kyle Rudolph
  • Greg Olsen
  • Scott Chandler

Fantasy Football Firsts

Reggie Bush

The NFL is wrapping up the second week of football and in this second week I was able to crush my opponent and pull out my first win of the season. This is my first time ever doing a fantasy league. I can say its probably easiest to start with football because of the schedule. I joined Mr. Fantasy and Big Jack’s Yahoo league. It is free to join and it has a companion app for droid or apple. I’m an apple guy So you know I have the app on my iPad and iPhone. It definitely makes it easier than running to check everything on the pc(no Mac yet). I also downloaded Bleacher Report and Rotowire.
My first week was a bust but I was able to come back strong in the second week and not even give my opponent a chance. This fantasy thing is very similar to gambling I would say, it’s all about luck and timing. This week I had a couple guys get hurt and I was able to fill those positions and gain huge points like my TE from the Jets Dustin Kellar was out and I was able to replace by thursday or so with SD’s Dante Rosario. I took a chance on him because he was questionable but it worked out with him scoring 3td’s and giving me 26.55 points. Now I lost on WAS Pierre Garçon and the three WRs I had barely scored 15 points combined but Good ole Reggie Bush was the man Sunday scoring me over 40 points. I felt that when I chose him, he was on a New team, The Heismann trophy situation was over along with the Kardishian BS. Hopefully he continues to score like he did this Sunday.
When I first heard of fantasy I just thought there was way to much time involved to do it or it would be to complicated but with modern technology and the NFL having really one day of games, it’s pretty easy and it makes that other game after the Bears game more exciting along with the national game. Depending on how well I do this year, maybe I’ll do a money league but then again I don’t want to push my luck. Until next week or whenever I decide to blog again.
