The NBA season has just gotten started and yet it seems that the team that is getting the most attention is the 0-5 Los Angeles Lakers. Now the Lakers have always gotten a lot of attention from the media, but do they really need this much attention when they haven’t won a game? The Sacramento Kings haven’t won a game either and I don’t think anyone has mentioned that.

The Lakers lost their 5th game of the season last night to the Minnesota Timberwolves 111-102. With the exception of a 2-point loss to the Portland Trailblazers the Lakers have been beaten by an average of almost 10 points in those other four losses. Any way you look at it they’ve only really had one chance to get a win this season.

I guess what could be confusing to some people might be the idea that this team was going to contend for the NBA title. I’m not sure why anyone would’ve thought that, but I guess there are always people who think that the Lakers can win a title because they still have LeBron James on the team.

Of course, the problem with that is the fact that James is now 37 years old and will turn 38 in December. While he’ll go down as one of the greatest players in NBA history, he’s no longer the type of player that can carry a team to a championship by himself.

Through the years the lakers have tried to get him some help, but that hasn’t really worked out. They added Anthony Davis a few years ago and while Davis has the talent to be one of the top players in the NBA his inability to stay healthy has hurt the Lakers chances of winning a title. Los Angeles also added Russell Westbrook to the mix last season and that was another move that just didn’t work out for them. Starting with last night’s game Westbrook will be coming off the bench as the 6th man to lead the second unit. Since joining the Lakers Westbrook has been more of a scapegoat for the Lakers troubles than anything else.

So, you see the names James, Davis and Westbrook and it’s possible that this Lakers team could find their way into the playoffs, but there’s very little chance that they’d be able to put a playoff run together and win the title.

One of the biggest issues that the Lakers had coming into the season was the only other recognizable name on the roster was Patrick Beverly. Even with Westbrook coming off the bench the Lakers need more than just Beverly to help out and win games.

The Lakers next game is Sunday at home against the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets are off to a 4-2 start this season and are looked at as one of the better teams in the Western conference. Now it’s possible that the Lakers could get their first win tomorrow night, but they’re probably going to be an underdog in that game.

The game against the Nuggets is the start of a four game homestand for the Lakers, so you have to figure that they’ll find a way to get a win or two during that short stretch of games. If they don’t, I can only imagine what the media uproar would be.

The NBA season is long and as of now no team has played more than 6 games, but it is a little surprising that there is only one unbeaten team left.

The Milwaukee Bucks are off to a 4-0 start this season. Milwaukee will put their undefeated record on the line tonight as they host the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks coming into the game with a record of 4-1 this season, so they could give the Bucks a test tonight.

Besides the Bucks hosting the Hawks there are six other NBA games on the schedule tonight. The marquee matchup looks like it will be the Philadelphia 76ers visiting Chicago to take on the Bulls. If you don’t live in the Philadelphia or Chicago area the game is going to be televised on NBA-TV if you’re interested in watching it.

This is the second of back-to-back games for both teams. Philadelphia beat the Toronto Raptors 112-90 with Tyrese Maxey scoring 44 points. The Bulls dropped their game last night 129-124 to the San Antoine Spurs. DeMar DeRozan did score 33 points in a losing effort for the Bulls.

The 76ers played last night without Joel Embiid while the Bulls played without Zack Lavine. It’s unclear if either player will suit up tonight, but Lavine has already missed three of the Bulls six games this season due to a knee issue.

Philadelphia struggled right out of the gate this season and are 2-4 coming into tonight’s game. The Bulls are one game ahead of Philadelphia as they’ve started out the season 3-3.

As you know since I’ve mentioned it a few times on here that I’m not a huge fan of the NBA. Since I live in the Chicago area, I do check out a little bit of the Bulls game when they’re on, so I’ll check in on their game against Philadelphia tonight and see how that goes. Other than that, it’s still difficult for me to sit down and watch a lot of an NBA game.
