How was your week

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but it seems as though no matter who or what the New York Giants do in the NFL draft they’re destine to get criticized.

If you can go back to last years draft just about ever expect said that the Giants had to take a quarterback. Well they had the second pick in that draft and instead of taking that quarterback of the future they went with Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and they got crushed for it.

Even though Barkley rushed for 1307 yards with 11 touchdowns and added 91 receptions and 4 more touchdowns he was a bad draft pick. Really?

Barkley was even chosen Rookie of the Year over the five quarterbacks that where taken in the 1st round with him, but he was a bad pick for the Giants. I guess in the pass happy NFL having a running back that doesn’t have to come off the field in passing situations and is a dangerous any time he has the football in his hands isn’t better than having a young quarterback to sit behind Eli Manning.

Now coming into this years draft the Giants had two 1st round picks #6 and #17 and it appeared as though one of these picks would be used to find that successor to Manning. As it turned out the Giants did end up using the 6th pick on a quarterback and they still got killed for it by the experts.

It seemed as tough everyone was under the impression that the Giants would be taking Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with that 6th pick. Instead they used that pick to take quarterback Daniel Jones from Duke. I did see a few mock drafts that had the Giants taking Jones, but the majority and it was a big majority of mock drafts had them going with Haskins.

Obviously the Giants had Jones rated as a better prospect than Haskins; so they went with the guy they liked better and it seems as though they made the wrong choice. Did they?

It was clear that no matter who the Giants drafted had very little chance to play this coming season unless Manning got injured; so Jones now has an entire year to develop. Which is how quarterbacks use to be handled before everyone that was drafted was going to revolutionize the quarterback position.

Now what I can’t figure out is how right now this very minute everyone seems to know that Haskins is going to be the better quarterback than Jones when everything is said and done. How do we know that Drew Lock who was the only quarterback taken in the 2nd round by the Denver Broncos or Will Grier who was the only quarterback taken I the 3rd round by the Carolina Panthers won’t turn out to be the best quarterback taken in this draft. It’s completely possible that a quarterback that hasn’t even been draft yet could be the best one selected in this draft; how do we know? Plain and simple we don’t.

After looking and considering all of this; how do we know that the Giants made the wrong pick in Jones.

By the way Haskins only stayed on the draft board until the 15th pick. He’s now a member of the Washington Redskins.

The other interesting story coming into this draft was what would the Arizona Cardinals do with last years #1 pick Josh Rosen who went 10th overall after the Cardinals gave a quite a bit to move up to take him.

It had been reported that the Cardinals where looking for a 1st round pick in any deal they made involving Rosen, but they weren’t gong to get that especially when they used the 1st pick in this draft to take quarterback Kyler Murray.

Any team looking for a quarterback pretty much had the Cardinals over a barrel as there was no way they’d go into camp with both Rosen and Murray on the roster.

In the end the Cardinals got more for Rosen than I thought they would. Rosen was sent to the Miami Dolphins for a 2nd round pick #62 overall and a 5th round pick in the 2020 draft. Arizona used that 62nd pick to select wide receiver Andy Isabella from the University of Massachusetts.

I was a little surprised to see that it was the Dolphins who ended up being the team that dealt for Rosen. Remember Miami signed veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two year deal this off season and he looked as though he’d be the starting quarterback.

There had been some reports that the Dolphins would go with Fitzpatrick under center and just take their lumps this coming season. With the pan being that Miami would find their quarterback in the 2020 draft when it’s suppose to be a better quarterback daft than this one.

So was Miami the team you saw Rosen going to? and do you think he’ll be the Dolphins starter in Week 1?

Now the draft isn’t over as we still have three rounds to get through today starting at Noon. Arizona will start things off with pick #103 and the Cardinals will also end the draft as they hold the final draft selection #254 as well.

We’ve only seen the four quarterbacks selected; so where will guys like Ryan Finley, Jarrett Stidham and Tyree Jackson end up. There are also players like Florida safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Notre Dame cornerback Julian Love and Georgia wide receiver Riley Ridley who are some of the best players available and should get their names called in this draft.

There are always a lot of players found in these rounds of the draft that turn into Hall of Fame players; so you just never know what a player drafted in these rounds will end up turning into. That’s one of the things that makes the NFL draft so interesting. Can your favorite team find that late round gem to fill out their roster this year?
