How was your week

It almost seems like a little bit of a surprise that there hasn’t been a big trade or free agent signing in the National Football League or Major League Baseball, but there hasn’t been since Wednesday.

On Wednesday the Kansas City Chiefs traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks.

While Miami gets one of the top wide receivers in football the Chiefs receive a 1st a 2nd and a 4th round draft pick in the upcoming draft as well as a 4th and a 6th round pick in the 2023 draft.

Kansas City now has back-to-back picks in the upcoming draft. They have their own draft pick which was #30 and then they acquired the 29th pick from the Dolphins as part of the Hill trade. it’s possible that we’ll see the Chiefs package those picks to move up in the draft or maybe they’ll just hold onto them and use them. Either way it will be something that will be followed right up until the draft comes around.

You never know how a trade is going to turn out especially when there are draft picks involved, but this is one of those trades that look like it could work out for both teams.

Miami adds a wide receiver to team with Jaylon Waddle as well as an explosive offensive play to help them compete in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills. While Kansas City has the opportunity to retool their team a little bit with a large haul of draft picks. It’s clear that in the end the Dolphins probably received the best player in this deal, but if the Chiefs can hit on a couple of the draft picks, they acquired it will be a good deal on their end.

Like always I’d like you to chime in on this trade and let me know what you think. Did you like this trade? And who do you think will end up getting the better end of this trade?

With spring training up and running and the top free agent signed and in camp it has slowed down the baseball news cycle. It’s also too early for teams to go out and make major trades as they don’t really know what their rosters will looks like heading into the regular season.

Now there is one name left on the free agent market and while he wasn’t grouped in with the top guys, he wasn’t all that far behind them. There was a lot of talk about him before the lockout happened, but his name hasn’t come up much and you have to wonder why.

Michael Conforto is still currently a free agent. Conforto is the most attractive free agent left on the market and there was a lot of talk that the San Diego Padres had interest in him, but that was before the lockout happened and Conforto hasn’t really been linked to a team since.

Conforto has spent his entire seven-year major league career with the New York Mets but is coming off a down year last year. Conforto played in 125 games last season and hit .232 with 14 home runs. While the batting average is no longer important to teams 14 home runs for a corner outfielder isn’t enough in today’s game. It’s quite possible that last year was just an off year for Conforto since he’s shown that he has power. Conforto hit a career high 33 home runs in 2019 and was close to 30 home runs the two seasons before that.

Conforto did miss some time last season with injuries and there is a possibility that those injuries where the cause for Conforto’s drop in power numbers.

Since we’re only two weeks away from opening day you have to start to wonder if Conforto will be on any teams opening day roster when that date rolls around.

It’s possible that a team like the Cleveland Guardians may offer Conforto a one-year deal since the Guardians only have a $56 million dollar payroll for the 2022 season and could easily add Conforto on a what they see as a reasonable contract.

There’s also a chance that a team like the Texas Rangers could show some interest in Conforto. The Rangers did add two big free agents in Corey Seager and Marcus Semien they also missed out on signing Clayton Kershaw and trading for Matt Olson. Conforto could add one more bat to the Rangers line up if they bring him in.

Do you see Conforto signing with a team before the start of the regular season? If so, what team do you think he’ll end up signing with?

  1. After the year Conforto had, I don’t see many teams knocking on his door to sign him. Still, he has the talent to bounce back and have a decent year. I think someone will sign him just before the season starts.
it’s impossible to tell how those NFL trades will work out until we see how those draft choices do down the road. I’m sure that plenty of them will turn out to be busts.
