How was your week?

The American League championship series has played out kind of odd through the first five games. It’s a 2-3-2 series set up game wise and so far, no home team has managed to win a game.

The Texas Rangers won the first to games in Houston and then the Houston Astros turned around and won the next three games that the Rangers hosted. The Astros happen to have home field advantage in this series, but with the way the series has played out so far you have to wonder if that’s actually a good thing.

Jose Altuve hit a game winning 3-run home run for the Astros in the Top of the 9th inning last night to give the Astros a 5-4 in game 5 and allow the Astros to take a 3 games to 2 lead in the series.

The ALCS is off tonight as the teams return to Houston for game 6 tomorrow night. Nathan Eovaldi will be the rangers starting pitcher tomorrow night and he’ll try to keep Texas alive in the series. The Astros are starting Framber Valdez with the hope that he’ll be able to help Houston get their first win at home and advance to the World Series for the second consecutive year.

The National League championship series has played out more traditionally. The Philadelphia Phillies won the first two games of the series in their home ballpark. The Arizona Diamondbacks bounced back to win game three and four in their ballpark. The Diamondbacks are the hosts for game 5 tonight, so we will see if the trend of home teams winning these games continues.

As both teams look to get a game advantage in the series Philadelphia will go with Zack Wheeler as their starting pitcher while the Diamondbacks are going to counter with Zac Gallen.

With the way these championship series have played out it made me wonder if there’s ever been one series where the road team won all the games and then in the other series the home team won all of the games.

With the baseball playoffs going on and the National Football League up and running there may be people out there that don’t know that the National Hockey League season has started.

It’s very early in the NHL season as no team has played more than five games, but even though the teams haven’t played that many games there are only three undefeated teams left. The Boston Bruins are 3-0, the Colorado Avalanche are 4-0 and the Vegas Golden Knights who are one of the teams that have played five games are a perfect 5-0.

It is kind of interesting that the Bruins, Avalanche and the Golden Knights are the remaining undefeated teams as they were three of the pre-season favorites to possibly win the Stanley Cup.

On the other end of the spectrum the San Jose Sharks are the only team that hasn’t managed to get a win early in the season. San Jose has lost all 4 of the games they’ve played with one of those losses coming in overtime.

So let me know if you’re following along with the early season NHL or are you a little more tied up or interested in the MLB playoffs or the NFL.

I’ve watched a couple of minutes of the Blackhawk’s games, especially the one where they won convincingly against the Maple Leafs. But hockey has to be last on my last especially with the exciting baseball playoffs that have been going on. I keep wondering why the Phillies are still relying on Craig Kimbrel. He was hurt them tremendously in the playoffs.
And tomorrow’s game between the Bears and the Raiders should at least be interesting.
