Let’s call it Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced earlier today that rookie starting quarterback Anthony Richardson would have surgery on his throwing shoulder and will miss the rest of the season.

Richardson was the 4th overall pick in the draft and sustain an AC joint sprain in his throwing should on October 8th in a game against the Tennessee Titans.

The Colts medical staff as well as specialists that the team got opinions from discussed Richardson’s situation and came to the decision that the best course for him was surgery. This is accord to owner Irsay.

Richardson ends his season having appeared in four games, completing 50 of 84 pass attempts for 577 yards and three touchdowns. Richardson also rushed 25 times for 136 yards, scoring four rushing touchdowns. His dual-threat status proved difficult for defenses, but it also exposed him to hits. Richardson was injured on a designed run, with Titans linebacker Harold Landry driving Richardson’s shoulder into the turf on a tackle.

Richardson’s injury has brought up a question from quite a few media members about the way he plays the game and if he needs to change the way he plays. Of course, these are the same media members that thought Richardson could be a franchise type quarterback because of his ability to run. Now he gets injured, and they expect him to completely change the way he plays quarterback.

Yes, that’s incredibly stupid of them to suggest, but that’s what they do. It’s much easy to play both sides of the coin than admit that you were wrong about something. In most cases they just hope that people don’t remember their original comments and they can go at it from their new position without any blowback.

Gardner Minshew will take over as Indianapolis’ starting quarterback with Richardson out. Minshew has already started two games for the Colts this season and in his five-year NFL career has made 24 other starts.

Minshew is 1-1 as Indianapolis’ starter and the team itself is 3-3 and tied for 2nd place in the AFC South with the Houston Texans.

Minshew has actually appeared in all six of the Colts game this season. He’s completed 90 of the 138 passes he’s attempted for a 65.2 completion percentage. Minshew has thrown for 882 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions for the Colts this season.

Minshew played his first two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaquars before spending two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Minshew signed with Indianapolis as a free agent this past off season.

Minshew’s next two starts will be at home. This week the Colts host the Cleveland Browns. Then in Week 8 the New Orleans Saints visit Indianapolis.

Since Minshew is a veteran quarterback it’s possible that Indianapolis will be able to stay in the Race in the AFC South since no team has shown that it’s head and shoulders above the other ones.

Now it’s your turn. With Richardson officially done for the season and 11 games left to be played do you see the Colts making the playoffs with Minshew as their starting quarterback. As a matter of fact, let me know what you think that Indianapolis’ record will be over these final 11 games with Minshew as their starting quarterback.

Now Richardson isn’t the only starting quarterback who’s dealing with an injury he’s just the one who’s season is over.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand, and it appears as though he’ll miss at least this week Bears game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has missed the Browns last two games with a rotator cuff strain of his throwing shoulder. Watson said today that he “can’t put a timeline” on a return. Daniel Jones of the New York Giants missed last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills with a neck injury. It hasn’t been made clear if Jones will return this week for the Giants game against the Washington Commanders. There have even been some questions about Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s throwing shoulder. Allen said that there is “no concern” about mobility or pain with his right shoulder injury and that “we’ll be ready to go” for the team’s game against the New England Patriots on Sunday. There are also questions on if Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be ready to go this Sunday. Garoppolo left the Raiders game last week and was sent to the hospital as it was thought that he could have an internal injury. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case, but it’s still unclear if Garoppolo will play this week.

I believe that’s all of the injured quarterbacks, but there may have been some that I missed as it seems as though there are quite a few currently injured. Even with the NFL adapting the rules so quarterbacks can no longer really be hit they still seem to be getting injured. Hopefully the league doesn’t overreact and make more rule changes to protect the quarterback, but you never know what they’ll do.

They did just add flag football to the Olympics as a sport, so maybe that’s the next step the quarterback wears flags. I’m just kidding about that, and I don’t think that will happen.

Minshew is a decent QB and that division isn’t so hot. That being said, I think Indianapolis will only go 6-5 for the rest of the season. It is odd that, despite all the rules protecting the QB in place, there has still been a multitude of injuries at that position this season. Sometimes, the more you try to protect a postion player, the injuries will still occur and sometimes at an alarming rate.
Instead of flag football, the teams could always inaugurate a chess tournament instead which would drastically cut down all those aches and bruises!
