Even though they’re only 16 games into a 162-game season you have to wonder if what was thought to be a big yar for the Chicago White Sox is already coming off the rails due to injury.

Fortunately for the White Sox no team in their division the American League Central is off to a great start. The Minnesota Twins currently lead the division with a record of 9-8. the White Sox are 6-10 which puts them 2 1/2 games behind the Twins, but the White Sox are currently on an 8-game losing streak heading into tonight’s game against the Kansas City Royals, who are just a half a game ahead of them with a record of 6-9.

Just this week the White Sox added outfielder Eloy Jimenez to the Injured List with a hamstring strain. Reports are that Jimenez is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Jimenez joins Yoan Moncada who hasn’t played a game this season on the Injury List of White Sox everyday players. Then you throw in that expected #1 starter Lance Lynn hasn’t pitched an inning this season and neither has free agent signing Joe Kelly or versatile bullpen arm Ryan Burr. Then add in lefty Garrett Crochet who will mis the entire season after having Tommy John surgery and that’s quite a collection of injuries to start a season.

You also have to wonder if it’s time to start looking at Jimenez as injury prone. Jimenez is just 25 years old, but he’s been unable to stay healthy these last two season. Last year he played in just 55 games after being injured just before the start of the 2021 regular season. Jimenez hit just .249 when he returned to the White Sox line up last year, but he was better in the playoffs when he hit .294 against the Houston Astros.

Jimenez has been looked at as a potential superstar and a big time middle of the order run producer for the White Sox since his rookie year when he hit 31 home runs and finished 4th in the Rookie of the Year voting. Now you have to wonder if Jimenez will ever stay healthy enough to reach the potential that people predicted for him.

The White Sox have some other talented young players like Andrew Vaughn and Gavin Sheets who need to step up for Jimenez in his absence while Jake Burger is the top prospect who’s been getting some extra at bats with Moncada injured. These three young players may be the key to the White Sox turning their early season issues around, but is it too much to ask from this group?

While Jimenez is a key piece to the White Sox offense it may be even more important for the White Sox to get Lynn healthy and back into the starting rotation.

Dallas Keuchel has struggled in his three starts and has an ERA of 9.00. Vincent Velaquez and Jimmy Lambert have been filling in for Lynn in the White Sox starting rotation, but Velaquez has an ERA of 6.75 in the three starts he made, and Lambert’s ERA is 5.40 in the two starts he made.

Now again, the White Sox are just 16 games into the regular season, so there’s quite a bit of time for them to get healthy and back into the AL Central race as long as they can find a way to get and stay healthy.

What do you think the White Sox chances are of fulfilling the pre-season predictions that were made for them? In case you forgot there were many people who had the White Sox representing the American League in the World Series.

As you know after the delayed start to the season, I decided that I wouldn’t watch baseball this season, but I kind of broke that deal in a way.

I made sure to catch all of Miguel Cabrera’s at bats as he was trying to get his 3000th hit. To be fair I didn’t watch a full game like I said I wouldn’t do, but I did switch over to check and see if the MLB Network was cutting into a Cabrera at bat to see if he got that 3000th hit.

So, I did end up watching some baseball, but I’ve yet to actually sit through an entire game and I don’t plan to do that this season.

Now this is generally the time where I would tell you how to listen to the Sports Time Radio podcast, but I have some news on that. After 10 years of doing the podcast Dan the Man and I have decided to end it. We’d like to thank everyone who agreed to be interviewed on the podcast over that time as well as anyone who stepped in to co-host when asked. This especially applies to Schaumburg Stu who filled in every Friday and whenever else he was needed.

As of now I plan on continuing writing the blogs on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s and who knows maybe I’ll jump on some other days and post blogs depending on how I feel, so I hope you’ll continue to follow along with me here.

Since the NBA doesn’t consider the play-in games part of the playoffs it is now officially the 1st round of the NBA playoffs. All but one series has played three games and at this point you have to wonder if some injuries to top players will have an effect on the teams that met in the NBA Finals last season.

In Game 2 of their playoff game against the New Orleans Pelicans the top seeded and the team with the best regular season record the Phoenix Suns lost their best player Devin Booker to a hamstring strain. With Booker missing part of the 3rd quarter and all of the 4th quarter in Game 2 the Pelicans where able to even the series at a game apiece, but last night even without Booker the Suns took a 2 game to 1 lead in the series with a 114-111 win.

With Booker out everyone expected that Chris Paul would have to be the one to carry the Suns and he did last night with 28 points and 14 assists, but he had some help. DeAndre Ayton also scored 28 points for the Suns last night and he added 17 rebounds as well.

Reports on Booker’s injury have him out for what would be the remainder of this opening round series no matter how many games it goes and his availability for the start of Phoenix’s 2nd round series would also be up in the air. That is if the Suns can get by the Pelicans and move into the 2nd round.

With Booker out, do you have New Orleans being able to bounce back and knock Phoenix out of the playoffs? It’s very rare in the NBA that an 8th seed beats a #1 seed, but with the injury to Booker maybe will see that happen.

Now the other injury that might affect a 1st round series or even farther into the playoffs happened to the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks.

Khris Middleton went down in Game 2 of the Bucks series against the Chicago Bulls and was diagnosed with a strained MCL ligament in his knee. Middleton is now expected to miss anywhere between two to four weeks so clearly, he’s out for the remainder of the Bucks series vs. the Bulls and may miss Milwaukee’s entire second round series if the Bucks advance.

Now last night in Game 3 of the Bucks series with the Bulls Middleton’s absence wasn’t noticed as Milwaukee cruised to a 30-point victory 111-81 in Game 3 of their 1st round series.

With Middleton out you’d expect that Giannis Antetokounmpo would take over and while he did have a well-rounded game scoring 18 points grabbing 7 rebounds and handing out 9 assists, he wasn’t Milwaukee’s leading scorer in Game 2. Grayson Allen ended up being the Bucks leading scorer with 22 points. Former Bull Bobby Portis posted a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 16 rebounds and Jrue Holiday added 16 points in Milwaukee’s win.

So, last night Milwaukee was able to cruise without Middleton, but what will be the long-term effect of him being out? Can Milwaukee get by the Bulls in this 1st round? If the Bucks do advance into the 2nd round, how will they do with Middleton still being out?

The NBA also named their Rookie of the Year for the 2021-22 regular season. Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors is this year’s Rookie of the Year.

Barnes played in 74 games this season averaging 15.3 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game on his way to being named Rookie of the Year.

Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers finished 2nd to Barnes in the voting while Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons ended up 3rd with Jalen Green of the Houston Rockets in 4th and Franz Wagner of the Orlando Magic rounded out the Top 5.

With the Major League Baseball season up and running and the National Basketball Association playoffs in the official 1st round I’ve noticed something interesting. It seems as though when these games are reported on by the media, they seem to want to make sure they focus on the stats first and they at times seem to leave out who actually won and lost the game. This is obviously due to analytics, but apparently this is the way sports is looked at in today’s world.

Now as an avid fantasy player I’m very interested in stats just like the rest of the people who play fantasy sports, be it daily or weekly. Now I’m sure most fantasy player checks their stats well before it’s ever reported on any television show and since they have shows dedicated to analytics I don’t understand why a show that is supposed to be about highlights spends so much time focusing on the analytic side of the game.

I’m not huge into analytics, but I understand that this is part of the game now and wither you like it or not I’ll have to learn to live with it.

As far as fantasy baseball goes, I was unable to make it to my fantasy drafts this season because of the new position I was moved to at my job. That means that my teams where auto drafted for me by the computer and while I did try to get the players arranged in an order, I liked I had to just settle for what I got. Fortunately for me my teams didn’t end up being too bad, but I did end up with quite a few injured players and I juggled my roster the first chance I got after the draft.

Sadly, I’m not sure if I’ll have a good enough team to win ether of the leagues, I’m in, but I’m going to try and continue to make moves and adjust my roster either through waiver wore pick-ups or trades. I was able to make one trade this season. The computer selected four 1st basemen and I was able to deal one of them for a shortstop since I only had one shortstop on my roster. Hopefully my team can get healthy, and I’ll be able to make some more move, so I can compete in these leagues.

After the first week and a half one of my teams is off to a .500 start and the other one actually won the first week. The first week was an extended week due to the season starting on a Thursday, so this will be the first week that is seven days long. I’ll have to see how my teams do in a regular week.

If you’re a fantasy baseball player let me know what kind of a start your season got off to. Hopefully however many teams you have got off to a strong start.

How was your week

Posted: April 16, 2022 by Sports Time Radio in sports

We’re a little less than two weeks away from the NFL draft and I think if you tried you could find a brand-new mock draft from someone everyday either online or on television.

I don’t know about you, but when I think of these mock drafts the first two people who come to mind are Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. They’re the two I see the most when it comes to this subject, and I believe at this point in time they’ve each released four different versions of their mock drafts. As of right now they have a 25% chance to hit on a team’s 1st round draft pick and I’m sure they’ll have at least one or two more mock drafts released before the actual draft takes place.

With all of these mock drafts floating around for people to look at it’s difficult to figure out who your favorite team may draft. The other question is when and where will the quarterbacks be drafted this year.

Last year was a big quarterback draft and those guys went early and often, but this year is a little different. It seems as though most of the mock drafts have three quarterbacks going in the 1st round with the fourth quarterback going very high in the 2nd round.

Now you can find some mock drafts that have a quarterback going as early as the #2 pick to the Detroit Lions, but in others the earliest a quarterback is going is #6 to the Carolina Panthers. It’s also possible that a quarterback could go at #8 or #9 to either the Atlanta Falcons or the Seattle Seahawks. Maybe it’s the Washington Commanders who draft the first quarterback with the 11th pick or maybe will have to wait until the 20th pick of the 1st round when the Pittsburgh Steelers are on the clock. Most people expect the Steelers to select their quarterback of the future with that pick. The Lions come up again with the last pick of the 1st round the 32nd and maybe they’ll wait and select a quarterback with that pick instead of taking one at #2.

That gives us six teams with seven picks to try and figure out where a quarterback may be drafted. Now if there are only three quarterbacks that appear to be going in the 1st round which teams will be the ones to take those quarterbacks? Your guess is as good as mine right now.

Even the order of how these quarterbacks will be drafted is up in the air. Will Kenny Pickett of Pittsburgh be the first quarterback drafted? Or will it be Matt Corral from Ole Miss come off the draft board first? Malik Willis from Liberty is the third quarterback in this group of 1st rounders and maybe his potential will make a team select him as the first quarterback taken.

The fourth quarterback in this mix is Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati. In some mock drafts he sneaks into the bottom of the 1st round, but in most he’s the fourth quarterback drafted very early in the 2nd round. Now I have seen a couple of mock drafts that have Ridder being selected ahead of corral and Corral is the quarterback that slips into the 2nd round.

As you know taking a quarterback in the 1st round can be a crapshoot. Mac Jones was the only 2021 1st round quarterback who had success and helped get his team into the playoffs and he was the last of the quarterbacks drafted in the 1st round. Of course, a quarterback’s success is based upon the players around him and generally when you’re a highly drafted quarterback you’re headed to a bad team. There’s a reason why no rookie quarterback has ever won a Super Bowl.

So, chime in with your opinion here. When do you have the first quarterback being drafted and by which team?

The NBA playoffs started last night. I know, I know they call it the play-in tournament, but let’s face it it’s the start of the playoffs.

In the Eastern conference the Brooklyn Nets beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-108 while in the Western conference the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Los Angeles Clippers 109-104. With these wins the Nets and the Timberwolves will now be the 7th seeds in their conferences.

As for the Cavaliers and the Clippers their season isn’t quite over as they’ll have one more chance to grab what will be the 8th seeds in their conference, but first they have to find out who’ll they play for that right.

Tonight, the Eastern conference match up features the Atlanta Hawks hosting the Charolotte Hornets while the Western conference matchup has the New Orleans Pelicans hosting the San Antonio Spurs. The winners of these two games advance to Friday night where they’ll face off with either Cleveland or Los Angeles depending on which conference, they’re in. The winner of these two Friday night game will be the teams that are the 8th seeds in their conferences.

As for the two teams that end up losing tonight’s games, well their seasons are over.

As for the teams that won last night the Nets will move on to face the 2nd seeded team in the Eastern conference the Boston Celtics while the Timberwolves will face off against the #2 seed in the Western conference the Memphis Grizzlies.

Now it’s rare in the NBA that you get #7 or #8 seeds winnig playoff series, but it’s even rarer that there’s a team like the Nets in one of those spots.

There are a lot of basketball experts who think that the Nets will eventually represent the Eastern conference in the NBA finals. At one point in time the Nets where and may still be the odds on favorite according to Las Vegas betting odds to win the Eastern conference.

With a healthy Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving now being allowed to play home games the Nets have two top players, but so does just about every other team in the playoffs. Durant and Irving have both won NBA titles. Durant with the Golden State Warriors and Irving with the Cleveland Cavaliers, so they have playoff experience. unfortunately all of that playoffs experience doesn’t mak the Nets a good defensive team and in the playoffs the referees usually allow team to play a little more defense. Will have to see if the Nets regular season defensive issues become their playoff downfall or if the those experts are right and they end up winning the Eastern conference and going to the NBA Finals.

Somehow the Nets lucked into the extra day off as their playoff series against the Celtics doesn’t start until Sunday while the Timberwolves open their series against the Grizzlies on Saturday.

Let me know what you think. Do you have the Nets winning the Eastern conference now that they’re healthy? If you don’t have the Nets winning the Eastern conference let me know who you have coming out of the Eastern cnference and going to the NBA Finals.

Besides Minnesota and Memphis starting their series on Saturday we also get the Utah Jazz at the Dallas Mavericks, the Toronto Raptors at the Philadelphia 76ers and the Denver Nuggets at the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.

On Sunday besides the Nets and the Celtics startiing their series will see the Miami Heat host the Eastern Conference 8th seed, the Chicago Bulls are at the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns will host the Western confernece 8th seed.

Are you excited for the NBA playoffs to get started?

The Major League Baseball season got up and running without too many games being delayed. Each team has played at least one game and there are four teams that have played two games. I think through the first two days of the season there have only been three games postponed and with the way the weather can be this time of the year in the East and the MIdwest having just three games that need to be rescheduled isn’t too bad.

Obviously, it’s difficult to make any type of judgement after the season has just started, but there are always a few people who will try and do that. I think the most important thing for every team is to get through these opening series without any serious injuries.

There were some fireworks last night during the second game of the New York Mets Washington Nationals series after Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor was hit in the head or to be more precise, he was hit in the C-flap of his helmet and the baseball deflected off that flap and hit Lindor in the face.

Lindor was the fourth Mets batter that has been hit in the first two games of this series and as you can guess the Mets weren’t too happy about it.

After Lindor was hit Mets manager Buck Showalter came out of the Mets dugout screaming. Not only was Lindor the fourth Mets player hit in the series, but three of the four hit batters have been on pitches up and in.

Steve Cishek was the Nationals pitcher that hit Lindor, and he ended up being ejected for what crew chief Mark Carlson called “continued to escalate the situation by coming toward the melee.”

Fortunately for the Mets and Lindor he wasn’t seriously injured, but he did end up with the inside of his mouth was bloodied and the outside cut and swollen. Lindor was hit by an 88 mile per hour fastball thrown by Cishek.

Lindor did leave the game after being hit by that pitch as the Mets went on to win the game 7-3 in what was Max Scherzer’s first start after signing with the Mets as a free agent this past off season.

The teams are scheduled to play today at 6:05 p.m. Joan Adon is making the start for the Nationals, and it will be interesting to see if he ends up hitting a Mets batter.¬†As for the Mets it’s Chris Bassitt who gets his first start for New York since being acquired in a trade with the Oakland A’s this past off season. You have to wonder if Bassitt tries to get a little bit of revenge and possibly hits one of Washington’s hitters today.

The Mets haven’t released their lineup for today’s game since it’s a later start and there was no mention after the game last night if Lindor would miss any time. Lindor didn’t want to come out of the game last night and was heard on a field microphone saying something to the effect of, you’re not taking me out of the game. You have to figure Lindor will be a little sore, but if he’s able he’ll probably play tonight.

Let’s call it Wednesday

Posted: April 6, 2022 by Sports Time Radio in sports

Even though it’s starting a little late the Major League Baseball season gets up and rolling tomorrow. Now sine it is still early April it should come as no surprise that there are already two games that have been postponed.

Earlier today the Minnesota Twins announced that they have postponed their opening day game tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners and then not long after that it was announced that the game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox has also been postponed.

As of right now both the Twins and the Yankees will have their home openers on Friday and don’t be surprised if there are a few more of tomorrow’s games end up getting cancelled.

With the expanded playoffs and the fact that there are still going to be 162 games this season it can be difficult for Major League Baseball to get a fair schedule to open the season with. The obvious answer is to start the season in the warmer areas of the country or play in domed stadiums, but that’s not exactly fair to those teams since that would load up the front half of their schedule with home games.

The schedule makers try to be fair, but when you have games scheduled for places like Minnesota and New York as well as Chicago and Detroit there’s a chance that you’ll encounter some bad weather this time of the year.

The Chicago Cubs are scheduled to open their season at home tomorrow against the Milwaukee Brewers, but there’s rain in the forecast for most of the day in Chicago tomorrow. The Detroit Tigers don’t open their season until Friday when they host the Chicago White Sox, but their last spring training game today against the Baltimore Orioles was cancelled and that was to be played in Detroit today.

I guess will have to wait and see how many games end up being played tomorrow, but as of now we know that two of them won’t be.

Do you have any ideas for Major League Baseball on how to avoid these early season postponements that don’t involve loading a teams scheduled up with a bunch of home games because they play out West or in a domed stadium? If you have a good idea, I’m sure Major League Baseball would be very interested in it.

Now, we don’t talk too much about golf on the Sports Time Radio podcast, but it’s worth noting that Tiger Woods is going to try to play in the Masters tournament starting tomorrow.

This will be the first tournament that Woods has played in since his automobile accident 14 months ago. Woods did play in an event with hhis son, but this will be his first competitive tournament since that accident.

Even though he hasn’t played Woods is still the biggest name in golf and their where reports that once he announced that he was going to play there were quite a few bets placed on him to either win the tournament or miss the cut. No matter how Woods actually play the one thing it will do for the Masters is improve their television ratings especially if Woods makes the cut and plays on Saturday and Sunday. Just imagine what the television ratings will be if he’s actually in contention to win the tournament on Sunday.

If you were going to put your hard earned money down on Woods would you be betting on him to win the tournament? Or would you be betting on him to miss the cut?

How was your week

Posted: April 2, 2022 by Sports Time Radio in sports

With the Major League Baseball season finally starting next week you have to wonder if the New York Mets just saw their playoff chances go out the window before the first pitch was even thrown.

The Mets had a big off season adding free agents. They signed the top starter o the free agent market in Max Scherzer as well as outfielders Starling Marte and Mark Canha, plus infielder Eduardo Escobar who will be the Mets everyday 3rd baseman and then they traded for starting pitcher Chris Bassitt.

Just as it was looking like the Mets would be contenders in the National League East the worse possible news for them hit.

As Jacob deGroom was warming up to make a spring training start he felt something in his throwing shoulder. An MRI on his shoulder revealed a stress reaction in his right scapula.

Yesterday the Mets announced that deGroom won’t throw for four weeks and will then have the shoulder reevaluated.

Now, in 2014 Michael Wacha who was with the St. Louis Cardinals at the time had this same injury and he ended missing almost three months. If deGroom is out for the first three months of the season, can the Mets stay in contention until he returns? And how long will it take deGroom to give the team meaningful innings?

The scapula, or shoulder blade as it turns out is a vital bone in the pitching process. Stress reactions, which are injuries to bones typically brought on by repeated movement, are rare in pitchers’ shoulders. Typically, stress reactions are healed through rest.

Fortunately for the Mets and deGroom the shoulder looked clean on his MRI but, the bone prompted enough concern to shut down deGrom for the start of what could be his final season with the Mets. He has said he plans to opt out of his contract following this season, during which he’ll be paid $33.5 million, but added that he “love[s] being a Met” and that “it would be really cool to be one for my entire career.”

Now just to add to the Mets issues Scherzer just had to skip his start in a simulated game because of hamstring tightness.

Scherzer told reporters that the hamstring tightness started a few days ago and it flared up as he was preparing to throw that simulated game Saturday.

Obviously with deGroom already out to start the season Scherzer was the logical choice to start opening day for the Mets against the Washington Nationals on Thursday, but it’s unclear now if Scherzer will be able to make that start. If Scherzer is unable to make the opening day start you’d think the Mets would give that start to Bassitt.

Since it’s just hamstring tightness keeping Scherzer out he shouldn’t end up on the Injury List were deGroom will start the season. Hopefully Scherzer won’t miss more than that first start and may even be able to pitch later in the series against his former team.

So let me know if you think the Mets can stay in contention in the National League East as their top two starting pitcher recover from injuries?

The Mets are in a tough division with the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves. The Philadelphia Phillies also added some big bats to their line up and could possibly contend and there are some experts who think that the Miami Marlins could find themselves in contention for a playoff spot this season. If the Mets get into too big of a hole at the start of the season, will they be able to chase down what could possibly be three teams in front of them?

Let’s call it Wednesday

Posted: March 30, 2022 by Sports Time Radio in sports

With the NBA regular season winding there are still some stories that have to play out before the playoffs get started.

Right now the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers are all 1 1/2 games out of the top spot in the Eastern conference. The Heat are currently holding the #1 seed in the conference. Miami has struggled as of late as they are 1-4 in their last five games and with a game against Milwaukee tonight Miami could slip out of that #1 seed.

Boston has been the biggest mover in the standings since the All-Star break, but they just suffered a big loss when Robert Williams torn his meniscus ligament and will need surgery. Williams will be out four to six weeks and if the Celtics can get through the 1st round of the playoffs without him Williams could return in the 2nd round.

The 76ers have dropped their last two games and even Joel Embiid has cooled off a little down the stretch, but the important thing for Philadelphia isn’t getting that #1 seed, it’s making sure that Embiid and James Harden are both 100% when the playoffs start. Harden has taken a game off here and there to rest his hamstring, but he should be full go by the time the playoffs come around.

Of course, the Bucks are the defending NBA champions, and they appear to be picking up their game at the right time of the season. Milwaukee got a 118-116 win over Philadelphia to move to just a 1/2 game of that #1 seed. Milwaukee has won three of their last four games as they get ready to face the Brooklyn Nets tomorrow night.

As for the Nets they are in the 8th spot in the Eastern conference right now and they are 3 1/2 games out of the 6th spot which would get the out of the play-in tournament, but that’s a big hill to find with so few games left in the regular season.

The team right in front of the Nets are the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are just one game out of the 6th spot, so they have a chance to get themselves out of the play-in tournament. Evan Mobley will miss the Cavaliers game tonight against the Dallas Mavericks and there still is no timetable for Jarrett Allen to return from his finger injury. Mobley is only expected to miss tonight’s game and should return t for tomorrow night’s match up against the Atlanta Hawks who are holding down the 10th and final spot in the play-in tournament.

Right now it looks like the Nets, Hawks and Charlotte Hornets will be in the play-in tournament. Now will just have to which team ends up in that 7th spot and joins them.

Now over in the Western conference it looks like the only thing left to decide is which teams will fill the final two spots in the play-in tournament.

As of right now the New Orleans Pelicans and the San Antonio Spurs are sitting in the 9th and 10th spots in the Western conference.

The Spurs are tied record wise with the Los Angeles Lakers at 31-44, but San Antonio owns the tiebreaker with the Lakers, so they have that 10th spot right now.

It looks like the other eight Western conference playoff teams are set and the only thing that there is to watch is if the Minnesota Timberwolves can get out of the 7th spot in the conference and pass either the Denver Nuggets or Utah Jazz who they trail by two games.

Coming down the stretch there are some compelling games to keep an eye on and see which teams end up in which spots for the playoffs.

How was your week

Posted: March 26, 2022 by Sports Time Radio in sports

It almost seems like a little bit of a surprise that there hasn’t been a big trade or free agent signing in the National Football League or Major League Baseball, but there hasn’t been since Wednesday.

On Wednesday the Kansas City Chiefs traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks.

While Miami gets one of the top wide receivers in football the Chiefs receive a 1st a 2nd and a 4th round draft pick in the upcoming draft as well as a 4th and a 6th round pick in the 2023 draft.

Kansas City now has back-to-back picks in the upcoming draft. They have their own draft pick which was #30 and then they acquired the 29th pick from the Dolphins as part of the Hill trade. it’s possible that we’ll see the Chiefs package those picks to move up in the draft or maybe they’ll just hold onto them and use them. Either way it will be something that will be followed right up until the draft comes around.

You never know how a trade is going to turn out especially when there are draft picks involved, but this is one of those trades that look like it could work out for both teams.

Miami adds a wide receiver to team with Jaylon Waddle as well as an explosive offensive play to help them compete in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills. While Kansas City has the opportunity to retool their team a little bit with a large haul of draft picks. It’s clear that in the end the Dolphins probably received the best player in this deal, but if the Chiefs can hit on a couple of the draft picks, they acquired it will be a good deal on their end.

Like always I’d like you to chime in on this trade and let me know what you think. Did you like this trade? And who do you think will end up getting the better end of this trade?

With spring training up and running and the top free agent signed and in camp it has slowed down the baseball news cycle. It’s also too early for teams to go out and make major trades as they don’t really know what their rosters will looks like heading into the regular season.

Now there is one name left on the free agent market and while he wasn’t grouped in with the top guys, he wasn’t all that far behind them. There was a lot of talk about him before the lockout happened, but his name hasn’t come up much and you have to wonder why.

Michael Conforto is still currently a free agent. Conforto is the most attractive free agent left on the market and there was a lot of talk that the San Diego Padres had interest in him, but that was before the lockout happened and Conforto hasn’t really been linked to a team since.

Conforto has spent his entire seven-year major league career with the New York Mets but is coming off a down year last year. Conforto played in 125 games last season and hit .232 with 14 home runs. While the batting average is no longer important to teams 14 home runs for a corner outfielder isn’t enough in today’s game. It’s quite possible that last year was just an off year for Conforto since he’s shown that he has power. Conforto hit a career high 33 home runs in 2019 and was close to 30 home runs the two seasons before that.

Conforto did miss some time last season with injuries and there is a possibility that those injuries where the cause for Conforto’s drop in power numbers.

Since we’re only two weeks away from opening day you have to start to wonder if Conforto will be on any teams opening day roster when that date rolls around.

It’s possible that a team like the Cleveland Guardians may offer Conforto a one-year deal since the Guardians only have a $56 million dollar payroll for the 2022 season and could easily add Conforto on a what they see as a reasonable contract.

There’s also a chance that a team like the Texas Rangers could show some interest in Conforto. The Rangers did add two big free agents in Corey Seager and Marcus Semien they also missed out on signing Clayton Kershaw and trading for Matt Olson. Conforto could add one more bat to the Rangers line up if they bring him in.

Do you see Conforto signing with a team before the start of the regular season? If so, what team do you think he’ll end up signing with?
