We discussed it a little over the weekend when the media jumps the gun and anoints a team the best in their league.
Well after last Thursday night’s game it may have been just a little too early for the media to crown the San Francisco 49ers the best team in the National Football League.
I don’t know about you, but the Miami Dolphins looked pretty good hanging 70 points on the Denver Broncos and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs also looked good as they easily beat the Chicago Bears.
Don’t get me wrong the 49ers are a very good team. San Francisco is one of just three unbeaten teams left in the NFL. The Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles are the other two. I was just trying to get across the point that after three games it’s tough to say that one team is the best and I think that was proven.
However, I think that you might be able to say which teams are bad as there are four winless teams. The Bears, Broncos, Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers are all looking for that first win. Now two of these teams will get that first win in Week 4 as the Bears host the Broncos and the Vikings travel to Carolina.
Now it’s no surprise after the season ending Aaron Rodgers injury in Week 1 that a lot of the focus has been on the New York Jets quarterback position. After acquiring Rodgers there were many who thought that the Jets would be a playoff team. Well, New York is off to a 1-2 start, and it seems as though the blame is being placed on Zach Wilson.
There was a lot of talk about the Jets trying to add a top name veteran quarterback, but Matt Ryan turned them down and there really hasn’t been any comment from Tom Brady. There was some talk of trying to work out a trade with the Vikings for Kirk Cousins, but that seems like it was just a rumor. Now the Jets did add a veteran quarterback to their roster, but it’s doubtful that it was anybody who’s going to take over as the starter. New York added journeymen backup quarterback Trevor Siemian.
This is actually Sieman’s second stint with the Jets. He started one game for them in 2019. Sieman spent three years with the Broncos before that season with the Jets. He was out of the NFL in 2020 but returned with the New Orleans Saints in 2021 and last season played for the Bears.
Sieman does have 30 career starts in the NFL but most of those (24) came when he was with the Broncos. His teams are 13-17 in his 30 starts.
The other part of the Jets quarterback story is Colin Kaepernick wrote a letter to Jets general manager Joe Douglass. I haven’t seen the letter, but it was posted by rapper J Cole on his Instagram page if you’re interested in looking for it. Apparently in the letter Kaepernick talks about being signed to the Jets practice squad.
I think we’re all very familiar with Kaepernick’s saga. Kaepernick hasn’t played in an NFL game since January 1st of 2017.
Kaepernick is 35 years old and will turn 36 next month, but he should be 100% healthy since he hasn’t had NFL contact in such a long time. Is it possible that he could help the Jets?
Jump in here and let me know what you think about the Jets quarterback situation and what you think that they might do. They did announce that Wilson will be the starter for this Sunday’s game, so we know that much.
As always look for me on X, I’m @Burketime.
Kapernick has been out of the league for a long time and wasn’t playing all that great when he stopped playing. But I do think the league blackballed him. I’m glad that he’s done all right for himself after he left pro football doing a couple of most interesting documentaries.
