How was your week?

It’s Labor Day weekend which means that the start of the National Football League season is right around the corner. The season kicks off Thursday night when the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions.

That almost means that there is a lot of fantasy football drafts going on as well. It appears as though I’ll only be doing three fantasy football leagues this season.

I had a draft last night. I just wrapped up a draft as I started to write this and then I have one more draft tonight.

Last night was our snake league draft which moves along pretty quickly. I just finished up what is our money league draft and even though it has the smallest roster of all of the drafts that I do it never fails to take the longest out of all of them. Then tonight I have my auction league draft.

My biggest pet peeve when it comes to doing any type of fantasy draft is when you have people who aren’t prepared. Now if your draft has timed picks it’s not so bad, but in our money league there is no clock so we have to just sit and wait for someone to pick no matter how long that might be.

Now what I always find humorous is the fact that this draft date is set a month or two in advance and yet there are people who aren’t there for the start of the draft. This morning we had a guy who wasn’t online, and we waited about ten minutes for him to find his way into the leagues draft room and then we had to wait for him to make his pick. Then for some reason even though people have been sitting for quite a while when there turn to draft comes around, they’re not ready. I get that everybody is looking for that late round steal or that under the radar rookie, but you’ve literally had 30 plus minutes to find a player or players that you’d be interested in drafting. What’s the hold up when your turn comes around?

So far in both of the leagues that I’m in Justin Jefferson the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver has been the #1 pick. That’s not really a surprise as he’s looked at as the best wide receiver in the NFL and receiver has become the #1 fantasy position.

Last night I had the 6th pick in our draft, and I was hoping that Tyrek Hill the Miami Dolphins wide receiver would get to me. Sadly, he didn’t as he was selected right in front of my pick at #5. After looking at the draft board I had decided that since Hill didn’t get to my pick, I was going with Christian McCaffery the San Francisco 49ers running back.

I thought that taking McCaffery was the best pick and that there would be enough wide receivers available in the draft that I would be okay at that position. As it turned out I ended up with D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks, Deebo Samuel another 49ers player, Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings, Darnell Mooney of the Chicago Bears and Hunter Renfrow of the Las Vegas Raiders as my wide receiver group.

I may not end up with the best group of wide receivers, but for a 20-team league I think that I have a pretty good set of receivers to choose from.

In case you’re wondering wide receivers went #1, #2 and #3 in my draft. I mentioned that Jefferson went first. He was followed by Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals and Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets.

While I wasn’t surprised to see wide receivers taken with the first three picks, I was a little surprised to see Wilson go 3rd overall. I guess the addition of Aaron Rodgers as Wilson’s quarterback has really increased his value in fantasy football this season.

Well, I guess I should get prepared for my auction league draft. I’m interested to know what you think of my group of wide receivers, and I’d also like to know if and how many fantasy football leagues you participate in.

Don’t forget to look for me on the X, I’m @Burketime.

  1. I don’t have patience to participate in any of the fantasy drafts. Maybe because I’m ancient and don’t have the stamina to work on my selections.
But it should be an interesting upcoming season with a good game to start it between KC and Detroit.
